trying to find a good scale as my rcbs that I got for free seems to be sticking very often,how about a hornady lock-N-load? I've seen some very good reviews AND some very poor reviews of them,anybody use one?
 
well the guy who gave it to me said it was about 50 years old,not really sure if rcbs would be all that willing to send out a replacement? not to metion the fact that I find the beam scales a little tedious to use and would prefer a electronic one.
 
RCBS will most likely replace the whole scale, give them a call! Even if you buy a modern scale, what harm would a new free beam scale do on your bench?
 
Or, you could take 8 minutes, remove the two Phillips screws, and clean the agate bearings.
Use an alcohol pad, clean all the yuck out, and clean the pivots on the beam, too.
Do not lubricate.
Reassemble and see if that helps.
Then decide if you need to spend $300 to replace good working scale.
Although that chargemaster does look really nice...
 
I`ve also been thinking of getting an electronic one. Seen the youtube video of the RCBS chargemaster, all I have to say is WOW.
I`ve been running the old LEE beam scale and "perfect" powder measurer.....yeah perfect my arse....perfect for the garbage can. I`m almost to the point of quitting the reloading. Its just a pain in the arse. I need to simplify it lots or get the heck out. I started to use the spray lube and pad which speeds things up, the charge master would really speed things up! The only thing left that aggravates me is the cleaning of primer pockets and deburring.
 
I just bought an RCBS Charge Master, after my discount at Brownells and Coupoun from RCBS the combo set me back around $225 plus tax+ shipping. Now Im gonna sell my Hornady scale and Powder measure and probably get another $100 or so so to throw on the bill...Its an amazing piece of equipment.

X2. 300 $ for a scale is overdoing it IMHO. For pistol and plinkers you toss loads anyway and just use the scale to spot check. For accuracy I Like the KISS system BB offers. No need to worry about humidity, fluorescent lighting, metal in the vicinity, sun spots, moon spots, etc. etc.. Just weigh it and dump it in. Its not like you speed load 000's of uber accurate cartridges anyway. "Whatever".
 
so you fellows are recommending I buy the chargemaster combo? not sure if I really wanna drop 500 bucks on a scale quite yet how about just the chargemaster 1500 scale without the powder thrower built in? reliable? finicky? UN-reliable?

For what its worth, when I checked my little Winstead peters Acc-2000 against my AND FX-120i, I found the Acc-2000 was within +/- 2-3 kernels so long as I calibrated it regularly(every 5-10rounds)to compensate for drift and stay ahead of it. I'd say that's quite good for its price(130-140ish). (hirsch precision in NS sells them and the rcbs as well I believe)

Although for $400+tax/shipping can't beat the Fx-120i if you're reloading for competition/accuracy and peace of mind knowing all your loads are within 1 kernel.
