So I've been shooting Eley Target and Club for a while, and am printing some pretty decent 100 yard groups. So, what I'm wondering is, for those that have experience with the ammunition listed in the title above, is it that much better than the ammunition I've been shooting to justify the $15-$20/box price tag? Reason I'm asking is I'd basically have to commit to a brick of whichever ammo I decide to get.
 
only if your particular gun likes the other ammo, hirsch will sell you a box of each to test, you aren't commited to buying an entire brick of something, email and ask Peter to set you up with a variety pack.
 
Hirsch only deals in Lapua doesnt he? I dont think he sells Eley. Anyways Ive been having good luck with Lapua Center X in my 40x.
 
Very high likelihood better eley will shoot better in your rifle. If you are measuring groups in 10th's of an inch you will notice a difference. Is it worth it to you?

If you are shooting 0.30 inch groups at 50 yards currently then you will likely see 0.20 and the occasional 0.15 with much better ammo. It doesn't get a whole lot better than that.
 
If you sorted your Eley club into lots by .001 rim thickness you can get it to shoot almost as well at red box or black box Eley.

I tried Lapua Center X but was disappointed. While most of it shot well, I would get the odd flyer. About 2-3 out of every box would shoot a low shot into the 8 ring and would look like the target was hit with a wad cutter bullet.
 
What are you shooting it out of and what groups are you getting with club and sport? I tried a box of tenex through my CZ and noticed an improvement with consistency but I didn't feel the accuracy improvement was worth the price.

I can deal with the odd flyer I get with the cheaper stuff as I'm not shooting matches. I also think that my setup and shooting skill limit my accuracy to some extent.

Since you're in Ottawa, I recommend stopping by Stittsville and getting a box of Norma practice to try. It's quite expensive but my CZ really liked it.
 
I have a good quantity of a certain lot number of Eley Match EPS that is superb in 2 of my match rifles.
Another rifle prefers Center-X, yet another loves RWS R50.
22 Rimfires are fickle. But real consistency comes at a price.
FWIW, my 40X or my Suhl 150 will shoot 5 shots under 1" at 200 meters on a real calm day, using the EPS I mentioned.

Much harder to find shooters capable of doing this. If you have enough time and money, you will find an excellent combination. If someone hands a rifle/ammo combo capable 1/2MOA at 200yards good luck doing it. A lot of trigger time and dedication make it happen.

It's all going to depend on what your rifle likes. I tried Lapua, RWS, Eley and a bunch of others, finally settled on Eley. I ordered a few boxes of Eley Match EPS of different velocities from Targetshootingsports dot com and proceeded to test fire. I shot 5 shot groups at 50 metres to determine which velocity shot the tightest groups, after that I replaced the tuner on my barrel and dialed in the rifle with the tightest shooting ammo. I later ordered 2 cases of that lot # ammo so I'm good for a few years. Here's that ammo dialed in.

My target rifle loves Tenex, I know it shoots a lot better than I am capable of at 100 meters, sure is fun and amazing though!

That is the way I choose my ammo as well. I also buy by the case when I find a good shooting lot #
The lot of Eley Match EPS that works well in my 2 top shooters is 1006-01164 @ 1059fps.
I laid in a couple of cases of it also.

Here are some 50 meter 10-shot groups, followed by two 5-shot 200 meter groups. [squares are ½"]

I tested three lots of Eley Team through two rifles a few years ago and neither would produce a group which turned me off of Team altogether. I'd rather spend a little more on Match and shoot a little less than shoot a higher volume of crappier ammo. Practice getting cut rate results is counterproductive in my opinion.
