Does anybody really care if we are dumping our hard earned cash into high priced Chinese Scopes?
I always equated Chinese products to cheap mass produced junk, are these scopes worth the $800 plus bucks they are asking for them?
Or are we just getting the bone here!

I remember as a kid that stuff from Japan was generally thought of as junk, cars included.

Times have changed and the Chinese will raise the bar of public perception.

I got a set of Vortex binocs (made in China) a couple of weeks ago and am VERY pleased with them incl. the price.

Check out Camera Land Inc for more Vortex stuff. The 8x42 Diamondback binos are on sp for $129.

Most scope manufactures has their optics ground in Pacific Rim countries. The term "made in America / canada" mean absolutely FA nowadays.

mm that's the first I hear of a 6500 being made in Japan, I'm not saying yours isn't but it is odd.

Anybody else own one that can verify the country of origin?

Last I checked the Elite 6500 were made in Japan and most of the higher mag Elite 4200 scopes were also Japanese made such as the 6-24x50.

Please enlighten us of your 'Elite 6500 made in China' findings.

I was just as upset when I bought a Nikon Monarch ucc 3 years ago and discovered it was made in the Phillipines. Is that good or bad?

do you like the scope, is it clear, and functions work fine?
if so, then i guess its a good scope, regardless of point of origin.
just because something says made in usa or canada, doesn't make it superior, to say china or taiwan or japan, it really comes down to what the manufacturing company wants to produce and how precise they want it to be.
in the case of my purchasing an elite 6500, i wasn't even aware of the origin of it(i didn't even notice until this thread came about), i just liked it better than the vari-x III i own and the vx-III's i compared next to it:)

Just went and looked at my 4200 tactical 6/24/50/sf stamped Japan as well , so I would have had a hard time beleiving the 6500 were made in china

Some have commented on the 4200 scopes being Japanese, there is no question about these scopes origin.
The question I had raised was about the New 6500 Elites being made in China.
I have not seen the 6500 series but only reacted to a comment I got from a close shooting friend that they are made in China, this is why I made this post to get feedback from actual owners. If in fact all the 6500 series are made in Japan then good for us.
On a side note: I went into a store about 18 months ago and bought a Burris scope that was made in the USA, in the next shipment the same scope model came in marked "Made in the Phillipines", same price!

The upper end 4200 and 6500 are made in Japan. Have done so for many decades from the Balvar on.

Nightforce had finally got that same Japanese factory to make their scopes too a few years back. Orig were Hakko. Now Japan Optics or Optics One. Surprise!!!

The Nikon plant in the Phillipines is likely one of the most modern factories in the world. If you ever look through some Nikon upper end binos, spotting scopes or scopes, you will be amazed. Where has the best binos as rated by several birding sites been made? Yep, same factory by Nikon.

Same can be said for the Chinese CNC alloy factories that pretty make all the tubes used by all scope makers around the world.

Leupold outsources all of their glass. Have done this for decades. Considering all the clones out there, likely some of the tubes too.

Who makes the most and best industrial robotics today?

The Swiss? Germans? Americans? Scandinavians?

Nope....... the Chinese.

Times they be a changing and hopefully market forces will bring their costs inline with the rest of the Western World or else our children had better learn Mandrin.
