Elk +7x57 + TSX = WOW!

Just came back from a quick trip for elk.

Called in a very nice 5x5 and the 7x57 was up to the task, dropping him inside of ~30 yards with a heart/lung shot (140 grain Barnes Triple Shock).

Nice elk Jason and A Zone , all we get here on the Island is a chance to spend money year after year on an LEH that I will probably never get.
I have been putting in for the LEH elk draw for longer than some of our members have been alive, I finally gave up wasting my money last season.

BC Bigbore: The area we were hunting in has a three point minimum. There's six point zones due west of where we were.

I"LL be using 175gr tsx's in my 284 mauser custom on Moose this year. Hope to connect!!! I had Douglas chamber the OAL to 3.1 " and I get 7mm mag ballistics. Wish me luck. JITC

Good job... Bullet Recovery ? So with TSX bullets you can use a lighter bullet with the same results as heavier ones? I know a kill is a kill but you know what I mean.

No bullet was recovered. The internal damage was devastating.

I really don't know whether there would be an advantage going with a heavier bullet, unless it was in something like a .280 or 7mm mag.

Tough call, perhaps, but I'd say I'm very comfortable with the 140's. (FWIW, this round chrono'd at 2,883fps, 5-shot avg.)

Same here on my elk total pass through and lots of damage. I use 130's or 140's in both my .270's it was just a matter of what shot the best for me.

I dont believe a 140 gr TSX out of a little 7x57 can kill an elk, because I read on the internet how Republic of Alberta couldnt suggest using a 7mm Mag TSX on a doe deer...THIS IS A MIRACLE!
