To the best of my knowledge all provinces and territories prohibit hunting with handguns, even if you have a permit to carry or authorization to be in possession of a handgun other than home, range, etc. you were born too late, it wasn’t always this way. At least in BC, prior to about 1980 if you were an upstanding citizen you could get an Authorization To Carry permit to take your handgun anywhere in the province, range or not, for the purpose of ‘target practice’. It had start and end dates ( could be a week or more), destination, etc, did not specify range, event, etc. at the same time BC hunting regulations made no mention of handguns in any way. Living in the Abbotsford area we would get these permits for our annual moose hunting trips to General Delivery, Fraser Lake BC. Checked with local conservation officer, regional Fish & Wildlife office, Cache Creek game check station, all OK. We usually carried .22’s for grouse, but I personally also took a moose and in a different area, a mountain goat with a .357 Mag. Some time around 1980 they quit issuing those permits so we left our toys at home but I think I still have one of those old permits, gotta do some housecleaning, lol. Today? Go hunt in USA, Javelina with a pistol, no problem.
