Elk and Revolver

My memory is that Handgun Hunting was legal up to 1969 , in Ontario or maybe all of Canada ?
I did it from 1965 to 1969 legally in Ontario. At that time my handgun permit was a "Form 42"
dated April 1966. That permint says ( I still have it now) ,,,,,,," to have a registered revolver
or pistol elsewhere than in his dwelling-house or place of buisness for the purpose of target
shooting- Leaside Revolver Club." It was common knowledge amount handguners @ that time
that this Form 42 is all we needed to handgun hunt.

BTW ,,,,, It is NOW legal to hunt small game in Ontario with an Antique or Prescribed Antique
handgun . I have this in writting from the MNR.

i want to see the stunt of the hunt of an elephant with a .22 ... i ve seen some taken with 7.62x39 and it took more than a few rounds ...

Wasn't a stunt, it was a poacher using what he had. I was not aware of Capstick's Englishman.

Like I said, it was supposedly effective, if not very ethical. At least from a Western perspective.

I recall reading of one prohunter that preferred a 7mm Mauser for his cull work, and took several hundred elephants with that.

never met a poacher a .22 in africa ... i ve met many with german rifles, russian auto rifles and home made 12 ga but never the .22. again not my experience and i lived in car for 3 hunting seasons and not in the big city ...

Was it in a van by the river?

As a kid in the 70's I can recall seeing a fellow who owned a cottage next to my Grandparents cottage with a 22 revolver in a holster on his hip during moose season. I can remember my Grandfather saying he tried one once and emptied it w/o a single round hitting a pair of grouse on a branch. He picked up a couple rocks, threw them and killed them both. Lol

Been thinking of using my Antique Handgun for Bear here in Ontario.

The CO’s answer was generic and he should have included bear in his list of species that can’t be hunted with an antique handgun. It’s only small game that can be hunted in Ontario with an antique handgun. I wouldn’t be carrying one in the bush for small game when a large animal season was open as some CO’s would consider that you had the “opportunity” to use it on the large game. Some CO’s have said this, that’s why I quoted it. In Ontario it’s also not allowed to carry any other type of firearm when bow hunting large game.

I like to take mine with me when in the bush but with all the restrictions I usually only have it with me in maple syrup collecting and boiling in the spring.

I dropped a massive bull with a ray gun I got from a life form from outer space. Pew pew pew. Bang flop too.

After some load development I had it printing under MOA at three light years with the right photon charge.

Had to sell it though as it needed small pistol primers and just can't seem to find any.

Well hell I have about 10 in a can I don't need anymore, You should have asked .

I read this and got real nervous as I asked and got a different answer. I do know several people who have taken bears with a handgun. I emailed David and he got back right away, looks like we are still good to go.

I’m more that a bit surprised by his answer but he is the expert on this so I’ll certainly accept that. I wonder how many CO’s would charge one for this forcing a hunter to plead his case in front of a judge?

Ask stupid questions get stupid answers. This guy said it best. Hope they don’t freeze his bank accounts while they investigate his admissions
