Ok like the title states I need some help with a Elk hunt this year.

I have never hunted Elk.
Not realy sure of a good spot to go.
I am in Prince George

Any help here would be great.

Thanks in advance

Don

Something you learn real early is that elk hunter don't EVER tell the general public about their "secret spot" Good luck and do your own research.

Unlike Longwalker, you will find many BC Elk hunters that are more than willing to show you the ropes, and perhaps even some of their favorite spots. Do you have any areas which you intend on hunting?? Spec around PG, or are you thinking about an Elk hunting trip, to the Koots, or elsewhere? Best of luck,

I was hopping for some Ideas on what kind of area to look for.
I was also hopping that I would not have to go much more that 3 or 4 hours in any direction from Prince.
But a road trip could be arranged.

Not sure where to start.
What calls if any are needed.
That kind of stuff.

All the guys that I hunt with know about as much as I do when it comes to Elk. Moose, Deer and bear know where and what to do for them. Now it is time to learn about the Elk and its habbits.

Any help and general area would be nice.
Now your "secret spot" that would be sweet.

Is there any Elk hunters in Prince George area that would be willing to inform me on the things I need to know??

Help please

Don

Why not truck on over to the local wildlife office with a box of Tim's best donuts and Java. I'll bet they'd talk yer ear off.

I've found the CO's and even some field scientists to be quite helpful in the past. ( Mostly Nova Scotia)

I have heard the "Hoochie Mama" is an awesome call to pick up.All the hunts I have been on have been late season hunts, when the rut was long gone.We hunted the food sources alphalfa field and some wheat fields that weren't harvested. They were basically morning and evening hunts remainder of the day we spent still hunting the bush in hopes of bagging a moose or stray elk.

During the rut try to find decent sign that elk are using the area, and try calling.you may be able to pull in a nice bull.Good Luck.

You may try asking at huntingbc.ca as well. Lots of BC hunters there, lots from the PG area:)

Been quite a few good elk threads, too- try a search :)
