I have my first Elk hunt coming this Sept in BC. Was supposed to happen in 2021 but with all the restrictions and border closings it got bumped to this year.

I'm going to start loading and find what I like best but here is what I have to work with right now:

Bullets
130gr Accubond
130gr TTSX
150gr Partitions
150 Long-range Accubonds
160gr Partitions

Powders
RL22
H4831SC
H414

Now, I've been shooting the 130 AB mostly out of this rifle and shoots pretty good with RL22 and this is the load I had planned to take with me back in 2021. I like the velocity and how flat it shoots at just over 3200fps. My 160's I'm getting 2900fps with reasonable accuracy at a 100 but for some reason my groups with the 160 open up quite a bit at 300?

What are your thoughts and experience with elk and a 270?

Hard to beat a 150 partition in a 270 anything. My buddy took a moose with this bullet in 270 win. One shot and dropped him.

I have yet to shoot the 150's yet, might be a good combination between SD, BC and decent velocity.

Any of those would be a great choice. Use whatever shoots best. The 130 at 3200 sounds like a hammer.

The books say I can push it up to over 3300fps but for the AB's 3200 seems to be good. Wondering if I stick with a 130 would the TTSX be a stronger bullet for Elk(haven't tried them yet).

I use and like the accubonds in several calibers, however I think the 130 could be a little light if it comes to breaking some bone especially at that velocity . The TTSX is a great bullet but I would be inclined to go heavier if I had the option. The partitions are always a good choice , shot two moose with the 150 and had about 70% retention on broad side shots.

My 3 .270’s love the 150 Grand slam, I would not hesitate for a second using this combo for Elk or moose.

Can’t go wrong with partitions or a tsx/Ttsx.
I have never used one in a 270cal but 6mm,7mm .308 and 375 they work wonders and penetrate well. Only caught one tsx and one partition over the years.

I have never loaded A-Frame in any caliber. Is there any real advantage over a Partition?

No. They also expand wider so in extreme cases will not penetrate as deep as a Partition.

They are good bullets but after using both I have not seen any real difference between the two in the field.

Also, even if you wanted to try them I don't know anyone in Canada who has Swift bullets in stock these days.

Also, on large animals like elk I am a Triple Shock fan boy. ;)

Where are you going?

The Swift A-frame will maintain a greater weight retention over the Partition. In the testing I have done, (in water), they maintained about 95% of their weight, and mushroomed beautifully!

From my experience, way tougher. Penetrate further, retain way more weight. TSX or TTSX all the way. The others will all work of course, I just prefer and vote for the TSX/TTSX as long as your gun shoots them accurately enough.

I hope to find that out in the next couple weeks. The TTSX were on sale at bass pro a few weeks back so I grabbed 2 boxes.
