I began dreaming of a elk hunt in the kootenay region
it'll be a once in a lifetime opportunity as i don't make
a lot of money and it takes years to get enough for such a trip
i think i'm almost there.
Now does anyone know of all the licences, tags, royaltys, etc?
I'm a canadian non resident
thanks

i think you have 2 options.

1)if you know a BC resident they can get a "permit to accompany" on your behalf. i think total fees; licence, tag, permit to accompany, run around $400, i cannot remember if there is a further fee to export the animal out of the province.

2)go the guided/outfitter route and fork over $6-7000.

the outfitter route would probably be more successful since that is the business they are in and resident success on elk is not that high. but, if you had friends to go with, going with a resident could be more enjoyable, and you could go multiple years for the same cost.

Assuming you are a Canadian resident, non-resident to B.C.

If you find someone willing to take you out using a permit to accompany, the following are the costs.

Permit to accompany $55.00
Non-resident license to hunt small game and carry a firearm $75.00
Elk tag $250
If successful, royalty $125.00

Other tag costs that may be of interest: http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/wildlife/hunting/non_resident/#Licences

Permit to accompany info: http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/pasb/applications/process/accompany_hunt.html#a2

CAUTION: Elk hunting is extremely addictive. I accompanied a buddy of mine from Ontario four or five years ago for a "once in a lifetime" hunt. He came back, for another hunt a couple years later, and now is saving like mad to come back once again.:eek:

Good luck with your quest. There is nothing on earth like a screaming bull elk thrashing the crap out of the alders 30 yds away!!!!:D:D
