I am in NE BC right now I have been elk hunting with a fellow CGNTZ member on a private ranch that he has permission to hunt.

I have never seen so many elk tracks in my life there are places where the tracks are so thick that you can't take a step without stepping on 3 or 4 tracks it is absolutely amazing.

Problem is we can't get the elk to respond to a bugle or an cow call.

The weather has been extremely warm and sunny.

We're heading back out Sunday morning to give it another try any suggestions that anyone has would be awesome.

your post say "problem is we can get them to respond" is that supposed to read can't??

The rut should be going by now, i know a guy that swears the best day of the year is the 18th. He always kills his elk on the 18th of sept.

Not sure how you are calling, but you wont call a bull into the wide open in the shooting light " most times" you might have to find where they are bedding and call in that area. I find that when its hot the bulls shut up.

If you just try cow calling that sometimes will bring the elk in, they ususally wont respond, but they might come in. I killed a cow last year, by walking a ridge in between the feeding and bedding areas. i would give a cow call and walk along the ridge give another, finally a small herd got out of their beds and exposed them selves.

hope that helps

Hey Camp Cook, you hunting here around the FSJ area? With this bright moon & warm weather, I haven't had much response either. If you have a private field where the herds are feeding at night, try setting up and waiting for them to show in the last minutes of shooting light.
