Elk Meat - How much?

Hi everyone,

I was lucky enough to shoot my first elk on Thanksgiving Monday, a 5X6. Can anyone give me a rough idea of how many pounds of meat I will get off this? I want to take it to my butcher today, but I want to have some idea of how many pounds of meat I will get so I can decide on how I want it processed.

Those weights sure seem low. I just shot a bull here in Manitoba a couple weeks ago and the 2 halves at the butcher, totaled almost 500lbs. Butcher figured 800lbs on the hoof and we ended up with nearly 400lbs meat. Mind you the ground had 25% pork mixed in with it.
I know the Manitoba species is supposed to be the biggest bodied, but by that much?
