These guys are great, my son and Dougs son are friends, weve seen a lot of big elk come out of there,,best spot in BC for elk in my opinion

Okay thanks Ill look into it.

On another note anybody ship antlers and meat I know fedex won't. Going to cost a small fortune if it goes home on the plane.

Whatsan Guide and outfitters, Ken Robins?? West Kootenays. Talked with him awhile on the phone, 3 guys out in BC recommended him they didn't hunt with him, they knew him or his guides. Supposed to be some monster bulls in that area.

edit- Grizzly Basin wouldn't match price on par so it was an easy scratch off my list.

You expect them to give you a 30% discount(current exchange) just because you're Canadian? Lol.

Anchor D and Outfitting may be just what you're looking for. Dewey is an excellent outfitter and has top quality horses and tack, he also has the ability to take hunters into Kananaskis. Some truly beautiful country out that way.

Ya you bet bud! I fly floatplanes for a company up NWO. Canadian customers pay CAD. Just a respectful thing to do for fellow countrymen. If i want to pay USD ill go to the US.

EDIT- most outfitters will match USD/CAD on par

Ill check it out, thank you.

Give Marty Lightburn at Rocky Mountain High Guides and Outfitter a call.

Marty's territory includes the Bull River drainage between Fernie and Cranbrook, and he offers guided horseback hunts.

Typical 6 point bulls are in the 300 range, but I've personally seen several 338 class bulls taken from the area...

Ask for Boone to guide you and tell them both that Robbie sent you!

I worked for Marty for seven years and he runs a world-class business in some of the most spectacular country in that part of the East Kootenays!!

69firebird,
I have hunted twice with Steven Leuenberger of Ram Creek Outfitters. They are located in between Fernie, and Cranbrook, BC... closer to Fernie. I cannot say enough about Ram Creek. The staff that Steven employ's are all hard working, from the guides to the camp staff. Their horses are sound, and very easy to ride. The first time I hunted with Steven was Sept 2012. There was four of us on the Elk hunt. Two of us where successful, and fortunately I was one of them. My bull scored around 310", and the other bull scored around 330". For my second hunt, I hunted Mule deer in 2014. Again I was successful. It was a great hunt.
I came away from my second hunt with the same opinion as I did from my first hunt... Completely satisfied.

Whether you are hunting Elk or Mule deer with Ram Creek, you have to be in really good shape. Your cardio, and your leg strength are extremely important. You will need a very good pair of boots. Oh yah... you better not be afraid of heights.

PM me if you have any other questions

I've heard lots of good things about Steven Leuenberger... and yes, an East Kootenay elk hunt will test your physical fitness... no matter whom you hunt with...

The fishing in Ram Creek is spectacular as well...

Cant get ahold of Marty, left a message almost 2 weeks ago now, maybe he's hunting or on holidays.

Thanks for the tips!

That's currently a loss of 30%, which may exceed their margin of profit. I suppose the ones looking to fill their season/tags may give you a deal, but I wouldn't expect it.
All air charters charge in CDN $ here. Outfitters generally charge in US$ as 99% of their clientele is American, not because they're "disrespecting" Canadians. If you want to pay in Canadian, expect to pay at or near what the outfitter receives after exchange.

Personally, I wouldn't book with someone that's willing to give you 30% off over the phone, seems suspect, but it's your dime.

You're painting with a pretty broad brush there, I know for instance I can't turn a profit on a mountain goat hunt if I charge my rate (priced in US of course, hunt industry standard) converted straight across to Canadian, that 25% is my profit margin and a bit more even. Who do you do the flying for outfit wise in the NWT? One of my goat guides guides sheep in the territories early season and they won't price match to Canadian. It's too big a hit when all the tags are sold ahead anyhow, it's one thing to cut 25+% off for a friend but to do it for a cold call based on passport is a tough pill to swallow for an outfitter.

Side note, what machine do you fly up there? Float pilot here too.

NW Ontario. Most of my times on a 185 and beaver.

Bearkillr ive talked with 10 guys on the phone, 1 wouldn't match at all, on guy met halfway at 15%,another quoted me $500 more than his usd, and the rest on par. All of them are GOABC members and recommended by guys in this forum or bc hunting, that have hunted or worked for the outfits. All of these guys take 4-12 hunters for the season.

Bearklr remind me if I have anything for sale I'll sell it to you for USD.

I think he wrote "NWO", meaning Northwest Ontario, which is a different clientele, mainly guys that drive up from MI, MN, WI to go fishing or on self guided hunts, which I think is possible for some species in Ontario.. Here in MB no air charter charges in US as they get no direct business from the US, it's either from outfitters guiding US clients or residents, which means payment in CDN $.

Whatever, it's your money and time. I just hope for the outfitters sake (and yours) that he doesn't have mixed nationalities in camp, that will bring trouble.

Let me know if you have something for sale, I'll pay you the equivalent in US dollars, which is the fair way to do it. I don't expect a deal because I'm also Canadian. ;)

Oh I forgot to mention. 2 guys that matched on par, 1 is the ex GOABC president and the other is the current president...... so you got 2 guys on the organizations that promotes hunting in BC matching their prices dollar for dollar

Times are tough for some I guess and/or their prices are so inflated, they can afford to give huge discounts. They're not doing it because it was fun talking on the phone. :)
