For myself 2700fps-ish seems good enough in my 30.06 with 180gr loads and around 2900 for the 7x57. Killed a huge Elk cow with the 06 last year at around 300 yards held about level with her back and hit the boiler room, did not need the 2 extra shots that followed as there was pieces of lung all over the place she would not have gone far after the first.
Also shot a nice whitetail at around 250 y 1 shot deadblood every ####in where, and guess what I did notuse any fancy shmansy bullet plain old interlock, works everytime

Elmer was right. Roy was right. But if you actually want to eat your game, then Elmer was a lot righter. High velocity and light bullets destroy way too much meat. Besides, a 4 or 500 grain bullet down in the 'teens makes for better hunters/hunting.
Lessee, this must be about the millionth time I've got in this fight. Pretty bruised up by now.

Let's s ay we have a magic bullet, of 150 grains.
This magic bullet does the same thing, at any velocity.
So if you put this 150 grain bullet in a 300 Weatherby, it will expand, penetrate and retain the same amount of weight as if you shot it in a 30-30.
It peforms exactly the same when it hits a deer/Moose/elk- at any velocity.
Would he faster bullet kill better, due to more "hydrostatic shock" as Roy claimed? Or would it matter?
