Elusive Bolt Action TUBE FED .22lr Rifles. Need Help!

If whatever tube mag .22 you get is old and has in the past been stored with the mag full make certain that ALL of the rounds cycle through! Weakened mag springs have been known to leave one or two rounds in the tube even after multiple bolt cycles. And the followers are not red or orange!

Good advice. Will take note.
I have a compulsive habit of completely detail stripping and inspecting every pin and spring of any new firearm I take on. Repairing, tightening up and smoothing out anything I find that's rough. Tracking parts if they need to be replaced etc

Its partly ritualistic, partly mechanical intrigue and hobby.

I may have a lead on a win 72. Waiting on pics tomorrow. Thanks for all the info thus far gents. Much appreciated

Win 72 are fantastic rifles. I have two, love em. Accurate, reliable, built solid. Finding spare parts can be a pain though if you break anything, but can be done. I highly recommend picking one up

Most will come with really good peep sights, some prewar won't be dovetailed for scopes but used a special Mossberg mount, Havelin makes a repro.
I had over a dozen different ones at one point...only kept a 46b and 146ba.

I own a Marlin 781 in 22lr ( 18 rounds ) and a 783 in 22 mag ( 14 rounds ), those are keeper. Bought them in the late 70th, nice rich walnut stock on both.

I have a Mossberg 46b. It is tube feed, has a set trigger, aperture front sights with 3 or 4 choices of inserts, rear sights you have a choice of iron or adjustable target peep sights. I highly recommend them. Nice old gun. Shoots really well.

The best one of all Winchester model 72

Yup^^^. Mine has a funny little quirk when loading... you have to load the tube with the bolt open or the first round hangs up. Great guns otherwise, very accurate and nice trigger.

Love the Cooey 600, the first firearm I ever owned that made a bang.It was a nice step up from my tried and true 177 cal pellet gun.My 600 was a Christmas gift from my Mom and Dad in 1972.I still have it and it is still going to the local range on occasion.Many,many 1000's of rounds have gone through her.

I have a nice Winchester 72 on the way in the mail.....I also found a cooey 600 that will soon be on the way hahaha I couldn't pass it up for 150 bucks. This thread became dangerous to my wallet.
Question on the Cooey 600, does it have that God awful safety feature of having to pull the bolt back to #### it after chambering a round aka Cooey 39? Or is it just #### on close and pull the trigger?

I'm curious now about the possibility of adding one of the precision rear peep sights onto a standard 72a receiver?
Or were the peep sight model 72 proprietary drilled to fit the peep that came with it?
The ridiculous sight radius with that peep sight is just accuracy personified!

i would avoid the new marlin rifles. mine has been plagued with feeding and extraction issues. accurate, looks good, feels good. maybe the tube feed will be better than magazine.

You'll have to hunt down the correct sight. I'm not sure, but I believe it uses the existing holes.

The correct Redfield part number seems to be 70 CT.
