It is very unlikely the Senate would have killed it. They don't really oppose anything. As mentioned earlier in this thread, they're largely just a symbolic role cashing pay-cheques and accruing pensions.
 
Now we need to see Trudeau resign. He really should consider self-exile. He's free to go to China, Cuba, Venezuela, etc. I can't imagine where else he could go and not get yelled at for the rest of his life.

But if the Senate was growing a spine and hinting they might not pass it (which I think is likely true), it would explain Trudeau's abrupt and unexpected revocation of the act. Arse saving politics over substance or truth every time. You can't get him or any of his ministers to explain what the emergency was, not even to the senators debating it.

Despite thinking they are capable of it, I won't go so far as to say the Liberals intentionally provoked the truckers knowing full well they would hammer them with the War Measures Act. But I will say they sure took advantage of it. Think of all their 'wins':

- Making Trudeau look like a tough swift acting leader (except for the couple of weeks under the bed, but they can bury that easily enough).
- Setting the bar for removing Charter rights very, very low.
- Linking freedom and anyone protesting to preserve it with the far right, criminal and/or violent.
- Ruining a bunch of Western wrong-thinkers they despise and who don't vote Liberal.
-Scaring anyone protesting the Liberal government.
- Scaring anyone thinking of protesting the Liberal government.
- Scaring anyone thinking of supporting anyone protesting the Liberal government.
- By doing the three above and getting away with it, sending a clear message they can stomp on you and you can't do a thing about it.
- Proving they can once again say anything and pass any law they like without justification or answering to anyone.
- Having a concocted reason to pass money tracking legislation then using banks to go after their opposition.
- Having a concocted reason to pass their long sought internet censoring and hate speech (hate speech as defined by themselves) legislation they can use against their opponents.

Happy days in the PMO.

I saw on the news that Ukraine declared a state of emergency based on Russian tanks rolling over their border. In Canada the same emergency measure was called for a few hundred honking trucks and bouncy castles.
