EMERGENCY Need ar experts opinion

Long story short, the seller told me his smith had to modify the feed ramps due to his receiver being of some kind of military variant.

:eek: I hope you didn't lose too much on it.

The good seller you are though, you sold it in the right way, unlike whomever sold it to you.

Military variant? Let me guess, the seller was a CQ of "USSOFCOMBDB?" (Bubba Dremel Brigade?).

Purchased here?

This is the final chapter on the 20" so-called Colt upper and barrel assembly I traded for on this board.
I had sold it as junk but the buyer couldn't get it working so I bought it back.
Here's another link to my problems;

Here's the professional opinion on it;
Pat,
Disassebled and inspected your upper. This is what we found:
The slot for the barrel index pin is worn/opened (to one side) on the upper receiver. Suggest to
replace this with new stripped receiver ($162.75). Drilling the index pin hole and
installing a larger dia. pin is not feasable since it would not improve barrel cant.
Feed Ramp 'improvements' can be smoothed and given the proper slope.
Clamp on front sight/gasblock ($69.60)should be installed to counteract barrel cant.
It seems your barrel has been drilled (index pin hole) wrong at the factory, this would
have let to faulty feeding (since feedramp is slightly out of alignment) therefore explaining the
required feedramp improvements.

I am thinking that this whole procedure would cost $350 to $450 (not a quotations but close).
Is it worthwhile? Please advise.

This is the first time I have been screwed on this site. I can't prove the seller knew he was screwing me so I can't post negative feedback.

I gave it to the gunsmith for parts. Good riddance.

Buyer beware!

sounds like i could have been a good project barrel....to bad its gone like a 7" or what have you.....

You know what?

I wouldn't be surprised if that is straight from COLT; from what I have learned COLT is not too keen on finish.

Just my .02c to this.

It's very difficult to actually troubleshoot or say anything definitive without actually viewing the items in question, but here goes.

After reading the "gunsmith" report, me thinks that things could have been salvaged, and not a total loss as he is purporting.

The alignment pin issue can be dealt with by use of shims or filler, ie. defcon.
Having the sight block/barrel alignment pin not align, isn't the best thing to happen, but it is not impossible to overcome without buying a new upper receiver.

It appears the feedramp cuts that have been "modified" could have been polished, but actually may not have been necessary. It's definately not the greatest way to have things, but test firing in my opinion, would not have been unsafe. The locking lugs looked fine and not tampered with.

I think you may have been able to use the existing parts and got 'er going.

Hey if it works, go with it.

I've started with worse and had some luck making a silk purse out of a sow's ear:) .

But, seeing as you've gotten rid of the barrel, all moot anyway.
