What the hell... you read through an add that piques your interest be it a hunting rifle or maybe a rimfire and at the end is the price and "EMT only". WTF? I'm going to guess that that just lost about half of the potential buyers that like me haven't bothered to get set up, or don't want to get set up, or don't trust $ending dollar$ over the intrawebs or for whatever reason can't do an Electronic Money Transfer.

Can't people wait 3 days tops on a promise that a Postal Money order is on the way? Are people really that addicted to the instant fix of the internet? WTF do they think they gain by getting the money transferred electronically over a certified MO in the mail there's no risk to them at this point  I think people are getting too addicted to their two phones and couple computers and life by the internet not willing to wait for anything. Or maybe they just don't give a #### about selling the gun. I don't know. Rant over. thank-you

I accept any form of $$ that doesn't cost me anything. For sure EMT is super convenient and I do like it best. I guess some people want the money right away to buy something else.

I've got no problem with guys that say they prefer EMT at all. But the only EMT thing pisses me off. Some people don't have a choice of having EMT be it they are remote and on dial up or don't use conventional banking, or maybe like me they just haven't got around to it and don't plan to. I know more than one big time gun collector that doesn't even use the internet FFS, they have no plans to change that.

Many moons ago I was stuck in the dark ages just s you are now Salty, then the old crusty Superfudd, Supercub taught the error of my ways and I am glad he did. Would never look back...

If you can get online(even with dial up) you can do EMT. If your bank is too outdated move on or open another account with someone who does. It is one of the simplest, safest ways to send money. It takes no time you can do it from home, your phone, or wherever you can get service. I have sent an EMT from the top of a mountain to buy a rifle.

Its a no brainer...

No. I'm too stuborn. lol. I have on line banking to pay bills but haven't got around to the next step. My bank is 300kms away and I need to show up to do that, no affiliate up here. I'm not saying it isn't a smart thing to do .. this EMT but I am saying there will always be quite a few folks that for whatever reason won't have it. And again it pisses me off when some sellers demand it, for no good reason that I can determine.

It's because they want the money fast. Probably don't want to have to drive to a bank or fart around with cheques or money orders.

I guess you will be missing out on future firearms because your stubborn, sorry man, more for me, haha...

I can see where OP is coming from. Just put all the relavant info right at the top, then you don't need to wade further if the item doesn't fit your needs.
-Price
-What it is
-Payment type
-Location
...then the fluff

Really, it's not difficult!

Sounds like I'm preach'n to the enemy here LOL..edit- except Six' we was typin the same time. My wife's been pestering me to get EMT as well so one of these days it'll prolly happen. But when I see EMT only adds I'll pass on them. Unless it's something that I really really need. :p ha ha.. Just rubs me the wrong way to exclude those that aren't set up for EMT

Who do you bank with? I signed up for the online banking, the EMT was just a few clicks further away with TD. Incidently, I got it set up to buy a gun.

Royal, my wife did some fiddling on line quickly and it said I needed to show up as i'm not on line with them. Had to do that to set up my other account up here but that's not the toy account.

EMT, Salty, it's a convenience thing. I use it to buy from forum sponsors. Since I have a fancy dancy gadget phone I can spend, spend, spend with a touch of the screen. My wife got me to sign up with PC Financial and I'm not paying usual banking fees. There is a fee for EMT though. Obviously you haven't needed anything bad enough that's only sold via EMT yet!

Imagine if the ad also said "no picture collectors" :) :)

But to add to my previous post, with EMT you pretty much know within 24 hrs if the person is actually buying your item or not. For example, it's the holiday weekend, maybe some folks don't have access to M/Os on the weekend. So, you wait until Tuesday to mail out. Lets say BC to NS, there goes another week. So If I sell something tonight I know it will be about a week and half before something comes in that mail then I have to go to a bank or bank machine to deposit. That is the best scenario, the worse scenario is 2 weeks later no M/O then the buyer tells you they changed their mind and didn't sent the M/O.

If you have online banking then you already have EMT... You just don't know what links to click on to get it done... I am one who does EMT only... And it is not because I want the cash fast... Its because I am friggin' busy... I don't have time to mess around with personal cheques that get held until clear, or money orders that I have to go to the post office to cash... The last money order I took for a gun required FOUR trips to a PO because they don't carry that much money in their float... Screw that. If I loose your business because your too stubborn to click your mouse four times, I couldn't care less... That is not to say that I haven't made exceptions... A couple weeks ago, a fella really wanted a gun and asked if he could Purolate the cash instead... I said "sure" a couple days later an envelope full of cash was delivered to the door... That works too. JMO.

You don't have to go into your bank to "set up" EMT, I don't' know where people get that from....

Log in to your bank's website. Click on the "transfers" tab or menu item. It's called Interac Email Money Transfer.

If some one is dragging their ass on payment close the deal and put it up again. I can get a MO anywhere in Canada within 3 business days and have that kind of arrangement up front when buying/selling.

Ya we're all busy man. But you'll need to make a trip the post office to mail the rifle anyways maybe deposit the MO in a machine on the way.

Like anything its all a personal choice in how we deal and conduct finances. Just don't get why some aren't flexible at all on payment. But hey it is a quasi free world we live in so....

I had never used EMT until I purchased a rifle from Why Not?, he was very patient with the little screw ups by the bank, and it all worked well, I now prefer EMT as it is sooo simple and is instant. In minutes the seller has the $$, and can package up the item and ship immediately.

Ted does EMT? Wow, I am in the dust :D

Here's one for you EMT only guys what would happen if you saw a rifle that you really wanted and the seller didn't accept EMT? Would you then be flexible to your EMT only rules and send a MO? Is this just all about your preference/convenience and nothing else to do with anyone else, or are you strictly an EMT only person? :)

Money talks... BS walks.

Seller can ask for payment in any form he likes...
Don't like the terms... Negotiate something else or move on.

As a seller.. If I have one buyer willing to send me an emt and another with some sob story about how he can only send a MO... Well, guess who I'm going with...
Wanna pay with a MO..? Add $20 for the time I have to take to go deposit it into my bank.

Embrace technology or get left behind.

The world is advancing at an alarming rate , you must go along with it.

I know many seniors that have no issues doing what many younger folks have figured out.The day you stop learning is the day you have given up.

For me EMT is a filter for selling and a convenience for buying. If someone want's your item then take the next step.I find it refreshing after years of selling things and 90% of people wasting your time and effort.
