Enemy at the Gates

Nice movie, but only two things are accurate in the film Zaitsev was a sniper and he was at Stalingrad! The movie and the book are basically pure Hollywood make believe. Concerning the PU-Sniper's Rifle it was not yet in service in the Soviet Army in the time-frame depicted in the movie, Zaitsev was using the earlier PEM-Sniper's Rifle at Stalingrad.

In real life, Zaitzev and the girl met after the war, when they were both married to someone else. She died several years back, alone, in Moscow and bitter that she only got fourteen germans.

i hate it.
completely historically inaccurate, they took a few names and concepts from the real history and the book (which is a historically accurate depiction) and then made this peice of ####.

also, as with all ####ty films dealing with foreign people, everyone speaks english, and of course since theyre russian and german, they all have english accents (because english accents are foreign)

peice of ####.

The book is more a re-hash of Russian war-time propaganda, it is far from accurate and just as fancifull as the film. No historical proof anyone like Koenig or whatever you want to call him ever existed.

Its a movie. Made for entertainment purpose. Don't take it seriously. Incidentally, the rifle used by "Zaitsev" in the making of the movie is a dewat.

I really enjoyed the part when the Brit actor..i believe his name is Bob Hoskins.....who portraited Nikita Khrushchev....{who later became the leader of the Soviet Communist Party}.....lined up all the Soviet regimental officers and told them to quit "Sh*tting in their pants"..lol....also hands a Tokarev pistol to a officer who's attack had failed and told him to use it on him self..."and save me the paper work" !

If you liked Enemy at the Gates, check out 'Stalingrad', a movie from the German point of view of the battle. It is in German with English subtitles. Very gritty, not Hollywood at all like Enemy at the Gates. Great movie though:

Ya, I agree , great movie. The bad thing was, me sympathizing with Nazis :(.
Any war is a horrible thing but, what happened in USSR during II WW was beyond human imagination.

Be careful with your Stalingrad choice. There are two versions, one for the ADD Canadian audience and a longer one with a more basic cover.
I saw this movie after it was made at a film festival.... blew me away. No Hollywood mush here.

I really enjoy movies on the German eastern experiance. I found movies like "Enemy at the Gates, Stalingrad & Cross of Iron " exceptionally entertaining. You can't beat the book "Enemy at the Gates" by Willian Craig though. And yes the Germans actually did hang Sacha!

Has anyone seen that Finnish movie about the Winter War with Russia?(can't remember the name at the moment :redface:)
I was thinking of getting it, but was wondering how it compares with Enemy at the Gates

Thanks for the name JP.
and the link.
I will pick it up.
Already have Stalingrad and Das Boat, so this will make a good addition to the collection.

Stop talking about Enemy at the Gates! I've been going insane trying to find the dvd! I have no idea where I put it and it's driving me INSANE! Especially since I just bought a mosin-nagant (m44 carbine)

You're still alive? :D

And Stalingrad is the only movie I would bother watching asides from Saving Private Ryan, or Winter War.

I never left!! :D

Our local Future Shops and Best Buys usually have a decent stack of "Enemy at the Gates" sold at discount. It was on for $9.99 a couple of months ago.
