I have aquired two enfields one is a 22, the other a 303. The 22 has the Parker Hale peepsite and the 303 has the AJH peepsite. The 22 is a No 4 Mark 1*, Savage made by the squared "S". The 303 is a No 4 Mark 1 faintly marked with serial number starting with a V. Both have matching bolts and receivers. Both have canvas slings (the 22 one is marked Wpg Rifle Association/64) and one has a squarish canvas case that looks military and has US on it. Not sure if it was for either of these rifles originally. Both appear to have great bores but I haven't had the chance to clean them. These have spent a lot of years in storage but look in pretty decent shape.
Below are pictures of the 22. It appears to have a 22 barrel, not sleeved.
I am unsure if both will wind up for sale or not but am looking for values anyway. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

That barrel is definitely sleeved. The sleeve rings are visible both at the muzzle and in the breach.

Still, IMHO it's correct and still valuable. I have one done in a similar manner and it's a very decent shooter as far as function and accuracy are concerned.

Yeah you can see the sleve but still a very nice find. My 22 LE i bought as a stripped barreled action and the seller though because it was chambered in 22 it was useless and just scrap.
Well ive now since restored it and put a PH5 peep sight on it. And its probably my favorite lee enfidld i have now.

That rifle as it sits with the peep sight. Id ask 1000-1200$ for it. Maybe more maybe less. But thats a good ball park. It even has the correct 22 mag.

So my question is who converted it to 22? It’s not a no7 or a Belgian conversion. Would it be a comercial conversion for a school or something? Most militarys used smle .22s, no7, cno7, no8 & 9 and a few others I suppose. But I don’t know a lot about no4 .22s conversions and who used them

Believe me it was a big surprise when I cracked the bolt and saw that small hole. Bigger surprise was when I found the two bolts interchanged on the rifles. As I can no longer shoot irons they likely will be sold so I am looking for fair values please.

Sorry Evanguy, I just noticed you did suggest a price. The 303 is pretty much the same, condition wise, and has the AJH peep sight which is near identical. Interested to get a value there too before it goes on the EE. Thanks in advance.

The last 22 conversion I saw for sale, this spring was in a bit nicer condition and the seller was asking $900. I believe he took $700

The No4 in 303 brit in similar condition would likely bring close to $700 as well.

I get depressed about my financial situation every time I see an Enfield trainer for sale. lol They're "bucket list" guns for me, but by the time I get to my bucket...they'll probably cost 3X as much.

AG Parker offered Parkerifling conversions to 22 for about 50 years. So the answer to who would have it converted is anyone with the price of conversion.

To suggest only $700 value for the .22 with the current prices of Parker Hale sights is seriously lowball. IMHO.

agreed.

the $1000 estimate is more likely.

Need a lot more information about the other rifle. Is it a 208 conversion ? or is it still a 303 that has been set up as a target rifle?

if it is a 308 conversion then is if DCRA marked. (there is a long thread on the DCRAs in the stickies here)

It is a low ball price but it's a good place to start from when doing DUE DILIGENCE. The sleeved rifles don't have the same premium as rifles built on 22 specific receivers.

When it comes to milsurps, perception is a large part of the trade. That rifle may have started life as a military rifle but there is a good chance it ended up in a school of some type. I know collectors that curl up their noses at such specimens. NOT ME.

For me, I would just like to have one the same as we used in Cadets, in a school basement waiting 45 minutes for your chance to fire 5 more rounds,, I guess they would have been C No. 7 models. It was worth the wait at the time!

Agreed that $1000 is about right $750 for the rifle and $250 for the sight

The suggestion that varnish should be sanded off is horrifying to milsurp collectors. Never sand a milsurp stock unless you really want to significantly devalue your rifle!!!!!!!

More info (and photos) needed I think to correctly price these.
Is the 22 mag complete with spring and 22 follower? It appears from one photo that it is just the mag body.
What does the bolt look like? The remainder of the stocks? Etc., etc.

I also said maybe stripper, or is leaving the varathane on it a better choice, obviously it wasn't the original finish.

Sorry for the delay, I was away for the weekend. The mag appears to be a shellcatcher. There is no evidence of a spring or follower ever having been there. It would be quite a task to make something like that work to somehow feed unless intended strictly as ramp? The 22 has been varnished and can be redone easily without sanding. The 303 appears just an oil finish. I think it should be up to the new owner to decide how to refinish/restore these units. When I get a chance to clean and dust these off and clean and check bores I will post a few more pics but I believe I am limited to seven. Thanks again for the replies.

Numrich has surplus floor plates.

Finish on both of them should be Linseed Oil. Personally I can't tell the difference between a stock finished with Boiled or Raw Linseed Oil. Takes longer for the Raw oil to dry is about it.
