ok... brain picking time.. i just received a 1944 LB and i cant close the bolt on an empty chamber. i have seen pics of the bolt closed and i do have the matching bolt. the bolt head is stamped "2". the bolt will only cam over about half way. have pity on me.. its my first Enfield..lol

thanks guys.

... Two questions: Did you get it with the Bolt closed ? If so, you can be assured it will do so again, and it's not likely to be anything major. Second "thing", I'm not certain enough, but does it have a little cut-out, slot in the right side of the rail the the bolt rides on ? If so, did you snap the bolt head , down ? Other versions have the slot/cutout beside the breech ring. And some have a spring loaded detent that needs to be depressed then the bolt head goes over the guide rail/track.... The Lee Enfields are really very simple, the trick is to become familiar with it, and it's individual quirks ! Be warned, once you've got one, you'll get another, and another !!! ... David K PS The Bolt head does NOT have to be screwed down tightly, just a loose fit !

thanks for all the advice so far but still no joy. the bolt was wrapped separately. the bolt head is screwed down all the way.

ISA on the wood? Perhaps the Indians have had this rifle in their hands?

You said it's a no 2 bolthead? Have you got a 0 one around to try? Sounds to me at least that that's the next step.

BTW, does the bolt number match the receiver number?

OK, Good pictures, the little raised portion/protrusion at the end of the bolts rail is a detent, and the bolt head needs to be snapped down over it for the bolt head to enter the rail.. It may well be that there's an accumulation of crud beneath the spring detent, which would not allow it to be depressed enough for the bolt to snap down. ... David K

awesome David K.. got it clicking now..thanks!

so the buttstock stamp is Indian? It was described as "matching" in the listing. i guess not 100%. at least theres no ishy screw.

I've seen ISA in relation to Indian Enfields. Now, that wood doesn't look as dirty as Indian rifles usually do. The metal is a bit grungy looking though. True enough there is no Ishy screw.

So you were able to push the bolt head down and it snapped down and now will close? If so that's great.

ya.. if thats the serial # stamped on the butttock it doesnt match.. it must have been replaced at some point. everything else matches. at least its ok looking wood.. a little lighter than the rest of the wood but maybe better after some murphy's. its getting a good scrub tonight and going to the range tomorrow. :)
