I bought my first enfield last week. Numbers matching no4mk2 1944 (F). Bore is near mint and i am very happy with the rifle. I shot it today ,first time ever shooting a lee enfield . Rifle was bang on POA at 100 yards. Accuracy was a little less than I expected. Best group of the day was 4MOA. I was using S&B 180 grain fmj. I have only shot it once ( 20 rounds) I hope that with more trigger time my grouping shrink
A bit. My question is what is the average accuracy of these
Rifles using standard commercial ammo? What should i expect to see ?

Thanks

I am Just reading through Roger Washam's "The 2012 Complete Book on Lee Enfield Accurizing."
Great book; everything you will need to know about the subject. Author claims when done right most LE can be 1 MOA rifle.

ENFIELD type rifling has a very definite preference for FLAT-based bullets.

This is why so many people load the cartridge with BOAT-TAILS and then b*tch about the POS Lee-Enfields.

Take your S&B brass and reload it with a Sierra 180 Pro-Hunter flatbase, seated to the OAL of a Ball round. Load it with 38 grains of IMR-4895. Bench-rest the rifle, having a sandbag under the Stock immediately in front of the Magazine and shoot it like that. It should improve a bit. I have 3 here that will do about 1 MOA or less shot like that.

This load comes out at 2250 ft/sec from the 25.2-inch barrel. This is RIGHT ON the by-test most-accurate velocity dtermined by nfield and the Royal Laboratory when the Mark VII cartridge was under development, back in 1909 - 1910.

Zip over to milsurps dot com, take out a free membership and download a copy of "Shoot To Live! The Johnson Method of Musketry Coaching". It is the best book ever done on shooting the Number 4 rifle and it is superbly illustrated. It also has a lot on the Sights and on controlling that Trigger; both are important.

Hope this helps.
