enfield adjust sight?

I have a sporterized enfield smle. was my grandfathers rifle. cant figure out how to work the sights. it had a disc on one side like the head of a screw and 2 holes in it and o the other side it looks like a threaded piece that rotates up the side of the sight. is there a trick to it or something c ould it just be siezed and need oil. thanks in advance
 
Hi Adam,

I think (from your description) that you have the Lee Enfield known as the "No1 Mk3", and that you are describint the part of the rear sight that adjusts the elevation. If it only adjusts elevation, and not windage, you should ba able to press in one of the sides, which would free the rear sight so it can slide forward or rearward on the leaf (the part on which you can rear the distance in 1,000s of yards).

There is also a windage adjustable rear sight for No 1 Mk III. I've had a couple, mostly on .22 conversions.
If things won't move blast it with penetrating oil...
