Some of you guys may be horified , but i was giving this old bubba , i dont even know whick Mk it is as all the markings are gone
the wood was crap and the metal bare , I was given it in pieces , and has been sitting in the cabinet waiting for a fuss . so after i cleaned the old girl up , i looked into a scope mount for it . as my bubba had the top of the reciever milled , there wasnt much of an option .then i stumbled apon the indestructable Angle iron mount i found on a website . i changed it a little to match the eye reliefe for the scope i had floating around , i diddnt want to spend too much .
the only thing i have not done is to notch it out for the ejector screw .
anyway here are some pictures .

I'm sure it's functional and all but looking at it...it cuts the value of the rifle down from $100 to nothing...just my opinion. I guess if you blued it or something...

Agreed.

It would look much better if the edges were smoothed out and the mount was blued. Not bad for a bubba though.

Piffle, any LE with a scope is worth more than that as a hunting rifle.

SteveR still has the blurb on his site about the angle Iron mount IIRC, its a handy lil step if you have no PH side mount or T0-1 to press into use. I used to make up the angle iron ones in batches of 6, finish them up and paint them as a cheap option for folks who already had holes drilled in the sides of receivers for the old PHs etc. Just match the holes and you were good to go.

Might I suggest some nice paint though.

I agree with Dosing. Adding the scope makes the rifle more useful as a sporter, and it was altered beyond hope. Not a bad job at all. Clean the mount up a bit, trimming it to match the base. There's metal that doesn't have to be there. I made up a similar mount using 1/8" thick aluminum angle, and it is an effective way of installing a scope on a rifle with an altered receiver.

I seen that site with the angleiron mount and thought ...Woah ! Whats this guy thinking about.
Us " collectors " will cringe at the mear thought of this , but , "we" are also the minority of the world of gun nuttz. ;)
Now that I've seen one and also seen it's been well thought out and fitted ..I like it.
The rifle has already been bubba'd beyond restoring with the charging bridge removed and dovetail sights and I see this as an improvement on one of the best deer rifles out there...knock 'em down and serve 'em up !

Aha! it's ianwd again.:)

Nice one Ian, I don't think I have seen a neater and more practical design. I would guess you are going to give it polish and blue job now ? ( I said BLUE job).

for some guy who wants a truck gun, buying an old bubba'd 303 and adding a scope makes a lot of sense, not everybody is a purist-and as far as I',m concerned, there's a world of diference between cutting down a collector milsurp and buying one already done and modifying it.Not everybody has the bucks to go out and buy a new sporting rifle- even a stevens 200 .I say more power to someone who has the initiative to turn an old bubba'd rifle they got for $50-$100 into a useful tool to put meat on the table-the deer or moose they kill won't know one whit of difference

If it was a Globco, fine... But it looks like it might have been an EAL....
Not from where I am sat, the furniture looks wrong and besides he explained it came as bits so the receiver bridge has been milled/ground down already by whoever bodged the original action. That rear sight is no EAL rear sight look at it, its an escapee from the abortion clinic.

Well this is a bit more posetive than the other post i made , had my character
shot to pieces . anyway . the rifle had no sights at all . i guess the barrel was turned down a bit all markings were cleaned off and the front sight is a ramp with a 3 eight dovetail , and the rear sight has a dovetail milled into the barrel .
sadly the rear site thats on there is one i bought with a long enough tail so you can actualy see tha dam thing over the breech aiming it . but i wanted to fill the hole . although prety impractical . so i thought what the heck I was mid Nagant project and waiting for bits and so dragged the enfield out and started cleaning it up a bit . there was no blue iether and it was a bit pitted but bore sharp and clean .so seeing the impractability of the sights decided to do the angle iron thing . Its just roughed out fitted for now , but i will promise and make it a bit tidier and rounded off .i know the gun wasnt worth much to begin with so diddnt want to spend 100 bucks on a brownells mount which i must say does look nice , bit from what i have seen of enfield scope mounts , they tend to be a little on the high side and this baby is definately low profile .
Thanks for all your input Huggs & Kisses Ian

That rifle's working pretty good...;)

Form follows function

You have built a decent deer rifle out of a pile of parts. Well done!

Working on Bubba'd or 'customised' rifles is a great way of learning skills.

I have noticed that there is a lot of snobbery when it come to milsurps. Don't pay too much attention to those who shoot down your efforts. Most of these armchair critics have got their knowledge, expertise and opinions by reading books and magazines. Many don't even know what they are talking about, they read somebody elses 'expert opinion' and then make it their own.

You have demonstated that you are prepared to get stuck into a project and take on the work yourself. You have to be commended for making an otherwise defunct rifle bark at the moon again.

Form follows function. If I wanted to put meat in the freezer, I would take your rifle into the bush without hesitation.
