I checked out the Tradex website and found one. I guess my new concern is if the square part damaged anything when it was installed originally before I got it.
Can you take a photo from the side of the butt - where it would engage the stock. That big washer is unlike anything I have seen before. I suspect that some bubba work has been done.

There is no way that could happen with a No4 fore end unless the previous owner really decided to force the bolt. I have seen it where people add a bunch of washers as spacers under the head of the bolt so it won't screw in to far. This usually buggers up the female thread in the butt socket.
Unless you can find a crack in the rear of the fore end all should be well. If not, a bit of Gorilla Glue will fix it up nicely. Seeing as this is a parts gun you need to check underneath the king screw at the front of the trigger guard to make sure the spacer is still there. If not and the king screw has been horsed down to make the fore end tight it may have crushed the ways for the receiver.
Just cut the square end off the SMLE bolt and you are golden!
Same 14 tpi thread (7/16 BSW) used from the Martini through the Metford and the Enfield series.
On a couple of my rifles I have used a socket head bolt and a long allen key from the hardware store.
Whitworth is still a common thread in the UK. American UNC will work, same pitch and diameter, but the thread form angle is slightly different (60 degrees as opposed to 55) but in this application, it makes little or no difference.
The whole butt stock pictured, including brass buttplate , is off a No 1 Mk III. The buttplate trapdoor is different on the No 4's. And the round disc (filled in ) on the right side of the buttstock was earlier, rarely if ever used on No 4 rifles. It looks like a Long buttstock, it will fit but it isn't original as issued.
Hey everyone! I finally got the rifle put together after tracking down a super long screw driver. The butt stock is now quite snug and very sturdy. I was even able to get to the range and she shot like a beauty- though after 40 rounds, the barrel was pretty hot and the recoil seemed to be growing.
