Just a couple quick questions that I couldn't find answers to with the search function (surprise surprise...)

1. Are there bigger mags that I can buy for the LE no. 1 Mk.III?

2. How much am I looking at to buy extra 10-round mags?

Expensive mags considering.. Any sponsor sites selling brand new ones? That one site in the states has everything I ever look for but won't ship to Canada... Buggers..

Lot cheaper to buy some "stripper clips",..or as the Brit's called them "chargers"...and alot faster to reload too...just make sure you get the rims in the right order when filling the clips.... you can pick up stripper clips for a Lee Enfield from Marstar for $1.95/as new condition

With a bit of elbow grease and patience a 20 round Bren Gun mag can be converted to fit a Lee Enfield.

Not really worth the effort though. The huge mag, makes the rifle unwieldly and heavy. Skennerton has a pic in his book. Doable, but not practical.

The ten round mags were state of the art in their day and in properly trained hands, put out a lot of withering fire, accurately.

The use of chargers, as suggested above is actually faster than changeing out mags. A lot lighter as well.

Plus, the Lee Enfield was built to only use one magazine. The magazine was only intended to be removed for cleaning. If you buy another magazine that is not original to the gun, you'll have feeding issues, unless you tweak the mag for a proper fit.

I think there's also some discrepency(sp?) between SMLE and No.4 magazines, as well.

There were some bigger magazines made for the trenches in WWI but assume if you could find one it would be a collectible item too rare and worth too much to use regularly.

Bits of Pieces (google it) is a gunsmith/gunshop on the West Coast that carried a line of new manufactured Enfield magazines for No4s and No5s. I can't remember if they also fit the No1MkIII.

Adds later: I looked them up at Bits of Pieces. They are made in S.Africa, brand is K-MAG and they are blued and look good in the pictures. The downside is the price, almost $60 for ten round mags, $10 less for five round mags. Both sizes are available for No1 and No.4 rifles.

A good serviceable magazine for a No.4 or No.1 rifle can usually be found for $30-40 used, depending on whether you wait for an individual selling one spare or have to go to a retailer who keeps stock on hand.
