Hoping that someone can help. I recently purchased a No.4 Mk.2. It has "Surrey" on the barrel and "F54" on the the barrel by the receiver. It has markings of "F56 FTR" on the side of the receiver which I feel means that it went through a Factory Thorough Repair at Fazakerley in 1956. Any thoughts anyone?

I hardly ever respond to the Meatheads unless being questioned for real or imagined crimes, but I will break my rules for a newcomer, but don't expect full cooperation in the future.

The "Surrey" is a dead giveaway that this barrel has either been replaced or reworked by a commercial outfit. F54 could mean anything, although it could be a manufacturer's date code. Fazakerley switched from Mk 1s to Mk2s in 1949. FTR 56 is indeed a factory rebuild program marking code for 1956. Your serial number should be 'PF####'.

Thanks for the barrel info, but the serial number actually is AI####. Any other thoughts about that?

Here's a basic Enfield marking site to bookmark for the future.... :)

F54 is a faz proof, likely the barrel was made in 1954, fitted in 1956. F56FTR is what you think - 1956 FTR at Faz.
