Hello,
I recently bought my first LE, and im having a hard time identifying it. The stock ring is stamped with a date of 1914, and right beside the .303 british stamp on the reciever is a 2.222", and im not sure what the measurement means. Also, on several places their is a stamp that reads 'BNP' with some sort of character above it. The last marking that im not sure about is directly on top of the barrel, the word "surrey" is boldly stamped. Im a real noob in the enfield world, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Thanks for all the help guys. The wood is cut back, and im sure the barrel is too, it is definately missing a bayonet lug.

If it is a 1914 action then its buile on a No1 enfield and there will not be a bayonet lug on the barrel, the bayonet attached to the nose cap.

I'm wondering if that date is correct, I have only seen the 'surrey' stamped barrels on No4 actions

pictures of the rifle would help

Hi. Have the headspace checked before you shoot it. Thousands of Lee-Enfields were assembled out of parts bins with zero QC.
All those stamps indicate your rifle was sold through England. They're required on any milsurp by British law. Strictly private industry doing the tests. No government owned facilities involved.
"...sure the barrel is too..." Measure it by running a cleaning rod down the barrel on a closed bolt. Should be close to 25".
"...BNP is British Nitro Proof..." Birmingham. That's where the proof tests were done.
