D in the circle means "draw lapped barrel"
Crown -50-N...Gov't inspector's mark.
The DNS has something to do with the spec of the barrel and length of the butt

Winnipeg Toymaker
Can you explain "draw lapped" mine was a FTR by F done in 1952.Were these set up for a special purpose before P H bubbad them. All I had was a barreled action.
I am a newbie to the military guns. I have a few pages of drawings and pictures of marks on the enfields. The DNS drawlapped could possibly mean the riflings were sharpened up or rough spots removed by drawing an instrument and/ or compound thru the bore rather than a visit to a boring machine.
i stand to be corrected by the military gurus. what are special guns etc. i bow to the collectors. All I have are 2 - 1918 Enfield #1 Mk.III* in .303 and .410.
the D in the circle is one I looked into a while ago as well. Draw Lapped Barrel is posted on the list at enfieldrifles.profusehost.net, but it was later revealed by Peter Laidler I believe, that it denoted an expediency manufacturing method using a lathe to shape the bbl. I'll trust Peter on this one.
