Hi everyone,

I'm planning to make my first Lee Enfield purchase and have been watching the EE and some of the sponsors' sites to get an idea of pricing. What I don't have a lot of experience in is the price differences to expect between the various makers (although I am aware that Long Branches get a premium here in Canada). I just came across the following Savage No4 Mk1 for $295 --- this seems like a good price if the rifle is all matching and the bore is decent. Here are some pictures... what would be a fair price for an all matching rifle of this type with excellent bore?

I was just doing some research on Savage No4's and I suspect from both the serial number (22C25XX) and picture of the left side of the receiver that this is actually a No4 MkI*.

Any idea if the sight is likely correct or a replacement? Most of the pictures I've seen of Savage No4 MkI's have the two aperature flip sight.

There also appear to be some faint writing on the recessed receiver flat to the left of the "SNo4MkI" --- are these problably importer marks?

ADDENDUM: I found this link to what appears to be a similarly-marked rifle:

According to the posts, the U with arrow on the front receiver ring is a South African marking. The electropencil is the importer's mark (IAC Alexandrian, Virginia) although the picture I have is not clear enough to confirm this. Still interested to know the authenticity of the sight...

The rear is most likely a replacement, as most savages did use the 300/600 flip sight. If it does bother you, I am sure that their are lots of people on here who would gladly trade you a "L" flip sight for yours, as those sights are very desirable for shooting.

Those marks are probably Importer marks, but its hard to tell from the pics. BUT for the price, that is a great looking rifle, and a good deal.
