Can anyone tell me of a site where I can look at and identify the markings on my enfield.

The wrist strap is stamped on the left side of the rifle. No#1mk111*.
Below that is FR'48
The serial no starts with 33--. Only 4 digits long, and is typically followed by a small "x" . But all the wood and metal, minus the bolt. Has matching numbers.
On the butt stock is stamped into the wood

D
T E
W

There is a broad arrow pointing from the "W" up to the "D"

There is also a "C" stamped into the trigger gaurd. And the following as well

1G

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Indian Factory Repair 1948. A NoI rebuilt to seviceable specs which had all markings removed during rebuild and then restamped.

I just started looking into this kind of thing myself and found the following site helpful:

http://enfieldrifles.profusehost.net/main.htm

There are also some good Enfield books available for collectors that are mentioned on the site. You can get the books from Amazon or Ray Riling Arms Books (an excellent company, by the way.)

Turns out though, identifying an Enfield can be pretty tough sledding. Millions of them were made, they're all covered with various marks, rifles were reconditioned and remarked, records were lost or destroyed, etc, etc. Fun to research anyway, but you won't necessarily get a quick and easy answer.

Hey guys, perhaps you could help me too.

I just sold a similar marked No1 MKIII. Stamped left side `44FR but the serial is higher at 96###. It says No1MKIII above the date mentioned and then only Enfield below.

The CFC is screwing me around with the transfer because they don't understand the posibility of no factory ID where it was built.
On the right side front of the receiver and on the barrel by the knox form there is a Z on each part. Other than that there are no other obvious stamps for manufacture. The rest all seem to be BNP proof marks and other small one I am not familiar with. There are quite a stack of them.

Any idea what I can tell these guys so I can get this transfer done?
Thanks in advance!

If it says Enfield then its a RSAF Enfield manufacture

tell the CFC that it was manufactured by the Royal Small Arms Factory Enfield, located at Enfield Lock, England.

have them type that in :)

the later FR is not important

Thanks guys. I called this morining with gun in hand and got someone who could get their head wrapped around the situation. After explaining it was a reworked rifle it was all good to go. Is it just me or are some of the ladies working at the CFC more knowledgeable than the guys......

Cheers,
Noel

Hey Noel!

I'm still working on getting that No.1 Mk.III you sold me registered with CFC! They asked me if there was a number above the serial number and I was at work at the time so I couldn't remember. There is a number 1 or maybe I above it... I guess I really should call them and finish the transfer sometime soon I guess! lol
