Hi,

I own a pare of Enfield revolvers, a Mk.1 and a Mk.1*. I had always heard of the Mk.1* referred to as a tank corps weapon. Recently I acquired a collection of vintage American Rifleman magazines. I've noticed that in the ads for milsurp firearms from that time, they refer to the Mk.1* as a 'commando' revolver. Any truth to this? Were they used for both tank corps and commandos?

Hey, Adrian.

As with most advertising, there's a LOT of hooey out there.

My understanding is the spurless Enfield revolvers were issued primarily to tank crews. Apparently, the spur hung up on stuff. The "Commando" handle, like the "Tanker" SMLE and the "Jungle Carbine" are advertising foolishness.
