I own a good bunch of guns
I've used a ton of different kinds,
all sorts.

I've always told myself and people (when asked) that the M14 is my favourite firearm (for obvious reasons, full size-widely used caliber, durable, neat looking. lots of accessories.)

However, I've always had a nagging feeling, whenever I use my firarms, go shooting, or clean or show my stuff, that my No.5 is just really , really cool.

There's just something about it..
it's from world war ii.. yet it is one of the lightest guns I know of (which causes some undesirable recoil I know)

The No.5 is odd.. it has the whole wandering zero reputation (yet ive never witnessed poor accuracy in one)
it has the powerful recoil of the .303 in such a light gun, ok..

But I don't know,
all things considered, and being in Canada,

to have a lightweight, full powered, 10 round capacity rifle which I feel is fantastic looking.. it's just so nifty.

I should also mention,
I would like to pick up a bayonnete for it..
how much do they run generally?

thanks for your listen :)

You can get a No 4 MK 1 bayonet for $4.50 US at e-gunparts.com. I just ordered my stock replacement kit for my No 4 MK 1 and was impressed with the price/service.

As for the Enfield, I love it too. If I didn't have the Mosin Nagant M44, I'd say the Enfield is my favourite. I bet the No 5 is great, probably the same length as the Mosin! Enjoy it!

Unfortunatly the No 4 Mk I bayonet will not fit the No5 Mk1, as it needs a larger ring to fit overtop of the bell shaped flash suppressor. I also am in love with my jungle carbine! Out of all my milsurps it definatly gets shot the most. I also popped my first deer with it at the tender age of 12. Enjoy!

P.S, I am looking for a front sight/flash suppressor assembly....seems my grandfather had a little lapse of judgement and hacked the bell off it....

Anyone have one or know where I can get one?

No. 5 Jungle Carbine Is A Great Carry Gun for Moose Hunt/Wilderness Survival

In the 1970s and 80's I routinely used my Jungle Carbine as a constant companion in the three month moose hunting season in NW Ontario at the Lakehead. It also travelled with me by truck in a locked case to a wilderness camp which I was responsible for the rest of the year.
It carries well on a sling and is short enough that it doesnt get hung up. On a snow machine you dont get upset when it gets blasted by wet snow that penetrates a soft case at -30C.
The other "news" is that it ALWAYS works no matter what the conditions are. It has a nice balance for snap shooting in a brush environment. The muzzle brake/flass hider means that you dont have the same worry about the muzzle geting plugged when bushingwhacking.
I have been a No. 4 fan for fifty years; my two pics are the No.4 Sniper Riflle or the No.5 Jungle Carbine. Paired together they are a great team.

Numrich sells a repro No 5 flash hider, hard to find an original. The repro is not the same, it's cast vs the steel(I think) original and the bayonet may or may not fit over it(mine didn't) but it's the only game in town.

Methinks the wandering zero thing was the shooter was simply messed up from the recoil after the first 9 shots. :D

I was thinking of doing an already bubbaed #4 up in the Numrich number 5 kit. :)
They have the flash hiders BTW.

International Military Antiques sells a repo No. V Bayonet for about $50. They ship to Canada. I think the bayo is made in India but is not bad. It's kind of a shame that the original Bayo is worth more than the rifle but the old saying "Supply and Demand" certainly applies to those original ones. I too have a "thing" for my No. V

The reproduction flash-hider and front sight assembly by Numrich is OK but takes some work to smooth it up. also in mine the dovetail fr the front sight blade is oversize so you will have to shim an original to make it stay in. Joe

I watched a friend install a new front sight blade in mine, which also offered a very loose fit. You don't shim the blade, you spread the slot open...it tightens it right up.

Greetings, I'm looking at my new Atlanta Cutlery catalog right now, they have RFI marked #5 bayonets for $54.95 US, item number is 401262, it looks like it comes with the scabbard but no frog, looks like it's in near mint condition(at least the one in the picture).

Ahh I was wondering why theirs has a slot in the front sight blade.
Thanx, :)

Man, I couldnn't agree with you more. It's my favorite bolt gun, and maybe the recoil is damaging my nerve endings, but I don't think she kicks too bad at all. I had a great time shooting her in a three gun match this spring past, (and beat some AR's for score ;) ) and I hear you about how they handle and feel and look. Sigh, now I have to go get her out and go shooting, except my range is flooded right now. Hopefully dry by monday after work!:dancingbanana:

Those bayonets are functionally sound but less that perfect cosmetically. They will work for someone who wants a fairly cheap Jungle Carbine bayonet but if you put one beside an original they don't measure up.

I've seen an RFI bayonet at a gunshow that was really beautiful and perfect but these are a bit less so. Not sure who makes them. Consider them like a replica firearm. The blade is strong and sharp though and they do lock on to the rifle well albeit a bit loose.

Better bet- haunt ebay for the right deal.

No. 5 Bayonet

The NO.5 bayonets marked RFI are actual Indian military bayonets mfg. for No.5's left behind by the U.K. after India's independence, they were also continually made by the Rifle Factory Ishapore for the large stocks of NO. 5's they had. I do not consider them a reproduction bayonet, mine is an actual Indian issue and not as finely made as a U.K. issue but it is still correct and collectable for a No 5., the British were not the only Commonwealth Force to issue them. g2.

Cool! I weant to see Pics of this baby when she is done. :)
Where did you find the .22 kit?

No kit, I bought it as is in the EE. I just got it out of the box 5 minutes ago.
It's nicer than I expected. Two issues, one, the front sight is semi loose in the Numrich aftermarket hider dovetail(easily fixed by spreading the slot in the sight), and one of the pins is loose that holds it on the bbl, but that's about it.
It is apparently built from a 1942 Maltby No 4 Mk 1 receiver, per the CFC. Matching numbers. And, strangest of all....a big C Broad Arrow on top of the receiver ring! Now that is unexpected... :D You can just see it in the second picture.

The buttstock appears brand new, the flashider is aftermarket, I believe this rifle was built up using a No 7 barrel and one of these kits.

The bolt cycles like butter...everything appears to work very well, the finish on the receiver is like new.
