Friday, I bought an all-matching 2/1945 ROF Fazakerley No.5MkI Enfield .
Good metal on the rear sight, correct model too but the elevation screw knob is missing, the screw is snapped at the level of the surrounding metal and I'm pretty sure it is seized in the sight.
I guess I'll have to repair or replace that one.
Finish on the barrel looked like Suncorite but, upon removing the wood, I found no paint finish on the protected metal, only original blackening or blueing. I slopped some paint stripper on the metal and, sure enough, the paint peeled away.
What is the usual metal finish on No.5s from that year?
The previous owner had put some urethane varnish  on the wood too, so I decided this morning to take that varnish off and have a look under it because that wood had a grain pattern that didn't say "beech" at all.
Now I had to get my glasses and a strong magnifier because it is, without any doubt, walnut! And that stock is not a repro or a fake, it is a genuine No.5 stock, the one with the plain rounded forend.
I never thought Junglies could be fitted in walnut, mind you. When I'm done cleaning that varnish, I'll take some pics and post them here for you to see.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, (hopefully) but I think the original finish was black (manganese) phosphate.
