I bought my grandfathers old Enfield off of my grandmother and I was looking at putting a scope mount on it but one of the parts the mount attaches too is missing. I have been looking for the name and I can't seem to find it, any help would be appreciated.

This is the part that i'm missing.

Cheers

It's called the charger bridge, a lot of sporterized Enfields had them removed. It was where the stripper/ charger clip of bullets was loaded into the magazine. Yours was ground off, and is impossible to reattach/replace.

Not without some welding or slick riveting, and there really is no need, plenty of side mount brackets available.

Are you sure that your Enfield is a No.1 Mark III? Look on the right side of the butt socket to see the Model. On earlier Lee Enfields, the piece you have circled (the charger guide) was not a part of the rifle. If your model had one originally, there should be a couple of holes in the receiver where the rivets went.

Try to post a picture of the actual rifle you have.

it is a No 1 Mk III give me a few min and I can go snap a picture for you.

Ah, any idea on where I could get a side mount then?

ATI makes some economy models, and Marstar carries them. S&K out of the US supposedly makes a better one, but I don't know who imports for them. www.scopemounts.com/index.html?main.html. There are others if you google it.

The best quality "Original" side mounts for the sporters were made by Parker Hale and BSA. You will have to hunt the EE or contact some of the enfield gurus to source some of those...

Sporterized rifle

Yes, that is the typical two holes and cut in the receiver that remain when someone takes the charger guide off the No.1 Mark III type rifles.

Your rifle is a No.1 Mark III* rifle, made in India in 1944. While some people tend to look down on the Indian produced rifles, we have to remember that these rifles were produced to the same specifications as the British or Australian SMLE rifles. Until 1948, India was ruled by the British, and these rifles were made under British supervision, and quality control.

As mentioned, about the only practical way for you right now is to buy a side mount for this rifle, and drill and tap the receiver for it, if you want to mount a scope. There may also be long eye relief scope mounts that replace the rear sight, and mount a scope up on the barrel.
