Enfield No5 MK 1 Jungle Carbine

I’m far from an expert but I don’t think that the capped forend is original for a ‘45. I think they came out in ‘46.

My Fazakerley was manufactured in 2/45 and has no cap. The forend is stamped with the same serial number that matches the bolt and the receiver. At the time that I bought I had assumed that they should all have the metal cap and was pleasantly surprised to see that the forend appeared to be original.

Nice looking rifle regardless. I’m not sure why but No. 5s don’t seem to fetch the same prices as the No. 4.

This is all great info - thanks folks.
I haven’t shot it yet, but a slip on recoil pad seems like the way to go, maybe one with an extension to give it a bit more length.

The early models didn't have the metal caps, those came about later. In some cases, such as Malaysia, the salt water from the swamps they were used in, would cause all sorts of issues with the end caps and they were removed and some were supposedly recontoured.

Thanks, XWestie. That site doesn’t come up. I was just reading that he was in prison, so the site probably wasn’t maintained.

I apologize, it should be milsurps.com, it’s definitely up and running, I’ll have to do a search on Google to see if Peter Laidler is in prison, gr eas facing weapons charges in the UK
