Enfield P14 de-sporterize

I just finished restoring my eddystone fatboy p14 to ww1 1916 configuration. Boyd's sells stocks that need to be fitted after you receive them. I ordered hand guards that were way off spec. Numrich is awesome for everything P14. I lucked out and got an exact stock for my particular rifle on eBay. In the end I had parts sent from Australia , the UK, the US, and Canada. I ended up sinking around 600 bucks into it, but wouldn't even consider parting with it for under 1000. These rifles are becoming scarce in any kind of military condition. The important thing is to ensure any parts you order are stamped correctly to your rifle manufacturer. You will have a hard time finding correct volley sights, if your rifle does indeed need them for restoration. Don't settle for an M1917 stock. Get the P14 stock. Just my opinion...

Cheers!

So far I got 300$ into the rifle ( 150 for rifle + 150 missing parts from Numrich ).
Now I need the stock, 2 handguards, sling swivel and front Volley sights...And maybe the stock disc.

Today, I received an email from Numrich. My order is shipped.

Looking forward to pictures of the finished project.

You will have to be patient, the stock will be the hard to get item...

UPDATE !

The parts from Numrich were in the mail box today.
All the parts are in very good condtion !

The rifle is fully disasembled except the front sight... I will need a bigger hammer and maybe an extra pair of hands.
I think the front sight will be the *difficult part*.

I manage to find the front Volley Lever/Nut/Crinkle Whaser/Bead somewhere in Europe.
I should have those parts next week.

For the stock, one of my friend have an import permit. He will buy the stock and handguards for me. That's gonna be a little bit faster.

Quick update.

Yesterday, I received the stock and rear handguard from BRP gun parts inc.
The guy gave me the matching buttplate, trigger-guard and oil bottle with pull-trough rope... For free !

The front volley sight, nut and crinckle washer are in the mail, should have those parts next week.

I manage to find a Criterion barrel seller in Canada and I think I will buy one. It will takes at least 2 months to receive it if I order one right now.

I will post pics of the stock tomorrow.

If the foresight block takes more than a few reasonable whacks to get moving, try some heat from a propane torch. It's very important to keep the block and the blows square to the rear face of the foresight protectors. A hydraulic press is the best option; of course.

Thank you for your advices !

I manage to find almost all of the missing parts.
Now I need :

1- Stock disc
2- Stock disc screw
3- Buttstock swivel screw ( 1X wood screw )

I wonder if the disk of the buttstock is the same as a no1 mk3 ???
Can anyone give me the dimensions of a LE #1 stock disk please ? Diameter and thickness...

Here is a pic of the disk & sling base from my Winchester P14 , hope this helps .

Nice build !!

I measured the hole for the disc with my caliper...

Dia .940 X .140 deep.
I will make one on the lathe but I need to find the screw first.

If anyone have a spare P14/P17 or No1 Mk3 brass screw in good shape, drop me a PM...

Quick update...

The stock fit pretty much like a glove with my action. I feel lucky ! The handguard needed a bit of fitting but no big deal.

I removed the old finnish ( most of it ) then I *steamed* most the dings, I was able to remove about 60% of them.

Now I have a big problem, I was working on the rifle this afternoon ( hot and sunny day ) and the stock was sweating, oil or comso or both.
Anyone have a trick to remove that inlaid grease in wood ?

Leave it in the sun, with cat litter (not the scented kind)or the granules they use to soak up oil spills in workshops packed around it.
