Enfield Pattern 1914....10shot mag?

I have a p. 1914 enfield that obv is 5 shot but is it possible to make it a 10 shot? I am thinking if I cut the bottom of the mag well out and weld on a 10 shot from a SMLE or something simular. Anyone ever done this? Thanks

It's a Mauser style magazine floorplate...anything you do along those lines screams BUBBA and will render your rifle worth about $100 or less.

But, it's your gun.

Thats fine....its alreadt spoerterized beyond repair.....I am building it up to give to my buddy for his first gun so the re-sell value doesn't matter
 
You can buy a sportered Lee Enfield for 200.00 or less. Why go to all that trouble to wreck a perfectly good rifle. If he can't kill whatever he's shooting at with 5 rounds, I doubt he'll have time for 10. Besides, with stripper clips, you can shoot almost as fast as a LE anyway.
 
Why? Cause enjoy building guns/modding them as I find I can lean the most by doing so, the gun is already sportered up so its not worth anything other then learning......I was think if I can jsut buy a SMLE mag I could do it. Anyways its for a friedns FIRST gun....so why not ley him have 10 shots? Be happy hes geting into our sport lol

Or you could save $40-$50 for the mag and leave the gun as is/as designed. No harm in that either.
 
How far is it sportered? Is the barrel cut? reveiver milled? If its just a simple backyard Bubba hacksaw stock job then its far from beyond restoration. If you do like gun building, I think you would like restoring it.

If the barrel is cut, and/or reciever screwed, then Their is no real damage in making it into soething you like. But if its only a stock chop job then, leave it be, restore it and give your freind a peice of history for his first rifle. But if you still insist, all I can say is

i have seen very good convertions of the M17 (30-06) useing the BAR mag in the old days. there isnt to much to it actually. mag almost fits without much mods to the rifle, if i remember correctly
 
IIRC there was a mag extension available out of the US for p14-17s for sporterising to larger sized big game rounds, but you would have to look hard to find it. Your best bet would likely be something based on a lee enfield mag, and besides the hysterics here, it should be doable with just a spare trigger guard. If you had one and just removed the mag floor plate in theory it would be a quick and easy cut and paste job.
Your other option would be one of the 20round trench mag kits for mausers, and trying to make one of them work, not sure if Numrich still carries those ore not.
 
Cut the feed lips off a $40 Lee Enfield magazine.
Cut a matching hole in the P-14 floorplate. Fasten the Lee Enfield magazine casing to the floorplate. Snap the floorplate with magazine extension back onto the P-14. Maybe the Lee Enfield magazine spring could be stretched enough to feed, and could be adapted to the P-14 follower, which will likely have to be adapted to the Lee Enfield magazine casing.
Bubbery is limited to the P-14 floorplate (which can be easily replaced) and a $40 Lee Enfield magazine.
Sucker might hold 15 rounds which is even more bubbatastic that 10.
You might want to add some rails as well, along with a bedliner or camo refinish.;)
