Enfield possible purchase

I jsut looked at an original full wood Enfield and want to know what its value is. The guy did not want me to take a picture out of concern for the serial number so I can only describe it. It is a #4 Mk1, Original full wood in very good shape with almost no knicks or dings at all, uncut barrel, clean and pretty crisp rifling, steel but plate, flip up rear sight. There is a mark ont eh barrel I am unfamiliar with and am going to try to google. The mark is on top of the barrel at the close to the receiver and it has a capital C with an aserisk in the center of it. I could not see any other marks or stamps.
 
It sounds like you are describing the "C Broad Arrow" marking which denotes Canadian Longbranch Manufacture? :)

It is worth more in Canada than your run of the mill Enfield, just because of the "made in Canada" factor.

If full wood unmessed with, should be worth $450-$650 depending on condition.

Try and get it cheaper though! ;)

I could be wrong about the marking though.... Wait for the `proper`Enfield Gurus to arrive... :)

Sounds like you have a winner! Even if it isn`t a Longbranch made No4MkI, it`s still a good price with the extra mag and sling!

Does the upper handguard have the grooves :confused:
 
Indeed, sounds like a nice deal. Number matching? (serial number on bolt, receiver...) That would be a bonus. At $325, it's difficult to go wrong (but it is possible).

Numbers matching and the same owner for several decades. This guys father passed away and he is selling a bunch of stuff and a family friend knows me so he gave him my number. The others guns he has are over priced but I thought this one seemed kind of fair. Of course I came on here becasue there are alot of hard cores here that coudl hopefully steer me in the right direction.

No, that means it was at sometime Canadian military property. A Long Branch rifle that was in Canadian service should have that, but so should any other piece of Canadian equipment. A Long Branch rifle that was made to sell to another country probably won't have it.

Now since there are no other markings on the gun visable without taking the wood off to inspect it does that mean it is possibly a Canadian Built as well or what else should I be looking at on it. The only thing wrong I found was the pin came out of the flip up sight but the pin is still there and I see no damage to the adjustment lever or spring on the rear pop up sight.
