Hello, I'm missing my safety on my enfield No3 Mk1. Seems to be a lack of parts around for the No3. Would parts for a No4 fit?

Number 1, Number 3 and Number 4 parts are all very different.

Is your safety on the left side of the rifle or the right side?????
.

Hey, thanks for all the replies! I guess i need to properly identify the rifle before getting parts! The safety is on the left of the rifle, and on the right is a stamp of I I I. So does that make it a Mk 3 then?

Nope, not quite.

Safety on the left is a Lee-Enfield, either a Number 4 or the earlier SMLE, which ran through several Marks.

Safety on the right means a Pattern '14 rifle, later called the Number 3. It is a Mauser redesign wich saw service in both Wars, often as sniping equipments.

Your rifle obviously is a Lee-Enfield and is marked as "III", so it is a Short Magazine Lee-Enfield Rifle Mark III (if built before 1927) OR a Number 1 Mark III (if built after 1927). They are exactly the SAME rifle, just the name was changed. Does yours have a * after the III? What is the date of manufacture? Should be there, just above that III.

You need a safety for an SMLE...... which is also called a Number 1 Mark III.

As above, Woodchopper has mentioned that he has spares so you an get that piece of history safe again.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies! Stamp says 1917, no * after the III. It is stamped with SMLE.

I've been in contact with people with parts, so soon I should be in business!

promed, is there a slot in the right side of the receiver, below the bolt and above where the magazine is?
