SO i bought a sporterized no4mkII. The barrel had been cut off just infront of the front sight, but all the other metal parts were great, the wood was cut too.

I sourced some wood that fits well (after buying a no4mk1 forend by mistake) but it fits nicely.

I cant get ANY of the metal bands to fit around the wood! when i get the bands on top of the wood, theres NO way that the bolt would ever be able to fasten the band back together.... is this normal? do i need to file the stock down a bit? i havent yet (and i'd hate to mess with milsurp wood) what do i do?

Mk1 stock doesn't work on a MK11 even when you remove the rear tie bar and wood. I'd get the correct MK11 stock and everything should fit. I'm certain somebody would trade you a MK1 for a MK11 stock. You also can advertised for a barrel end; cut it to length and bore out...I've done a few this way especially when the barrel is like new and shoots well. Ron

If you have a Mk11 forend and the stamped metal bands it should fit. Have you got the barrelled action set with good contact at the knox and tip? Some times fitting is required in these areas. Post a picture or 2 and something might be obvious. Ron

As Ron says, make sure the forend is fitting perfectly first.

Often, a new forend and new handguards will require some work so that the bands can fit. The handguards can be oversized so that you can remove wood from under them and get the perfect thickness to fit properly. The channel in the middle of the forend can also require some work. Go easy, bit by bit, you don't want to remove too much and end up with loose parts :)
