Just wondering what the prescribed method is for adjusting the front sight on my No.4 Mk.1*.

It shoots nice, tight groups but they're about 4" left at 100m.


Does anyone know of any specifically designed sight adjustment tool and who may have one? Or do I just use a punch to try tapping this thing over? :HR:
 
Armourers used a tool with opposing handscrews to shift the front sight in a controlled manner.
If the front sight base is the split style, the clamp screw may be loosened, the sight pushed over, and the clamp screw retightened.
If there is no clamp screw, the sight is tapped over.
 
What Tiraq said, and I'll add that if you have a way of measuring the edge of the sight blade base against the edge of the sight protector (I use a dial depth gauge for this, but you could probably use the tail end of a vernier caliper), you only need to move the sight blade .029" to the left. Or you can use the TLAR method (That Looks About Right).
 
Actually, it's .029" Twenty nine Thousands of an inch, or almost 1/32" of an inch.

The formula to use is simple: SIGHT RADIUS in inches x AMOUNT OF CORRECTION in inches divided by DISTANCE in inches (100m = 3900inches) This formula works for both windage and elevation.
 
Real sight pushers are expensive, but that's what was used. The front sight gets moved in the opposite direction you want the group to go, so you need to move it to the left. A brass punch and a plastic mallet will do it, but not with any precision. Use the C clamp Ganderite speaks of, but put a wee bit of leather or something to protect the finish on it.
