I have a couple smle's and P14's that I want to put wood sporter stocks on, but all I can find is synthetic stocks everywhere. Anyone know of a wood stock source for smle's and P14's?

I would try Elwood Epps as they made their reputation in the 50's and 60's by offering re-stocked Lee Enfields and the materials to convert military rifles into sporters.

It was the thing to do back then, no one wanted full wood Enfields. Can't blame them for appealing to the consumers at the time.

I have a couple mis-matched bubba'd Enfields that would look way better with an actual sporter stock. The synthetic look just doesn't look as classic as wood.

In the 1950s, at least, Bishop used to make semi inletted and (semi) finished wood stocks for the SMLEs. These took very little work to make them fit the rifle and the finish depended on how much work you put on it. But again, little was required to make them into a pretty good looking, very serviceable stock, that made the rifle much nicer to shoot, because of the Bishop superior design.

I used to have a 1903 Sringfield in a Bishop stock. The stock dimensions were well thought out, and that proved to be a pretty good rifle. A SMLE with a 2 piece stock with same shape would be equally good. If the SMLE is no longer original anyway, I would be tempted to have it modified for a one piece stock, I saw one done up like that years ago, and you'll notice I rememeber it.

A 1 piece stock isn't a bad route to go.

I always liked the Parker-Hale Enfields and how they looked, but all I can find is stupid synthetic stocks.

I guess people just shoot them now with the hacked up military stocks.
