A Savage will have a C in the serial, a Long Branch an L. The proof marks are British commercial. The "Surrey" mark was used on rifles commercially sporterized in the UK. The two plugged holes on the receiver ring are for the front 'scope base. There may be a single hole on the charger bridge, or the rear base could have replaced the rear sight. In all likelihood the rifle is a British made No. 4 Mk. I sporterized in the 50s or 60s. If it is in good order, with a decent bore it should be a good hunting rifle. Value could be in the $50 - $150 range.
