I just bought a 303 but it had no name on it. It has a crown with GR underneath it. There is also what appear to be two flags crisscrossing with the letter F at the bottom.
On the barrel is marked bnp 303 2.2222
18.5 tons per ?
Serial number(663###) on action has ERA stamped above it.The same serial number is on the barrel. Any ideas hat I've got and what year? Thanks for looking.

It has a long barrel (24inches or so)
I think it has a magazine bit I can't find the release. Has a sporterised stock (I believe)

Thank you. I did a bit of research before posting here but didn't come up with much. I did assume it was an enfield bit that's about it.
Now hopefully I can find out the year. Cheers

The P-'14 rifle was made between 1915 and 1917.

I have Serial Number3xx here from the Winchester contract; barrel date is '15. The contracts were being would down to 'zero' point before the US entered the War in April, 1917.

So that's your time frame, anyway. Your rifle will be barrel-dated with 2 figures, at 10 o'clock position on th Chamber: '15, '16 or '17.

They are a modified Mauser action, very nearly indestructible and they have an Enfield-rifled barrel which will outlast your grandson if he takes care of it.

ERA is Eddystone Remington Arms: a locomotive plant in Pennsylvania which Remington converted into a huge rifle factory, just to make this rifle.

The P-14 was the immediate parent of the US M-1917 rifle which armed two-thirds of all Americans to see action in the Great War.

P-'14 was used successfully as a sniper rifle in both World Wars. They are VERY accurate if you treat them right.

Factory barrel length is 26 inches.

Hope this helps.

Thank you that really helps. The bore is dirty but the rifling is crisp . Im going to try and clean the gun up. Its not in the best shape but should clean up respectability. Again thank you, im making dinner so will probably have a fee more questions later. Cheers.

I started to clean the p14 last night. The bore came out beautiful! Very shiny and with nice crisp rifling.
I looked on the barrel at the ten oclock and didn't see a number but did see the letter V. No 15, 16, or, 17.

sounds cool...how about some pictures ?

my 3rd No.1 Mk3 is on its way...probably trucking passed Smellie as we speak, lol :D

These old rifles are so damn addictive, even my 7yr old daughter can tell the difference no between a No.1 and No.4, awesome helper to have around when you need patch after patch after patch haha.

She is quite concerned that there isn't enough people who take care of them ! Not bad parenting if I do say so myself ;)

enjoy it...learn about it....shoot it !

@ Vermintrex:

WHAT??? You mean that one is getting PAST me? How did THAT happen?

Oh well; at least it's going to a good home!

It will have its very own Polishing Girl on staff!

@ Smellie:

my apologies...my rudimentary English skills have failed me once again.

I meant that my 3rd No.1 Mk3 is on it's way TO ME ;) (1918 BSA...FTR'd in '35) She's got a crack at the the safety....so there's a good chance she has "that damned crack"...but the price was reasonable for full wood and hell, I already fixed one, why not another ! :)

The one you helped me with isn't going anywhere...she's back together and just itching to be taken for a run...all Ballitsol'd up and smelling purty. I need to get the headspace checked....I have about 5 rifles I need checked so I'm just waiting for the new one to arrive along with a 91/30 which should arrive soon as well....will get them all done at once.

Hope your weather in the middle of the country is nicer than it is here....just spent 2 hrs in a torrential downpour watching my daughter play soccer....ever try to make a ball roll on top of water logged grass ? It's hilarious to watch. Man...7yr old girls sure aren't afraid to throw an elbow...yikes !

Have a great weekend !
