Been a dream of mine for awhile to have a nicely engraved 1911. So a few months back I decided to pursue it. Thought it made sense to start with a higher end gun, so bought a Colt Custom high polish in 38 Super.

Then sent the gun of to Brian Frank in Alberta, after seeing and being impressed with his work. After discussing what I was looking for with Brian, he showed me a number of options in engraving styles, and did up some drawings.

Just received the gun back, and wanted to share some pictures of the work. I couldn't have asked for anything more. Brian really nailed what I was looking for.

Very nice, I remember in the early 1970's when I sold Colt's, they had a project book for engraving pistols , revolvers and rifles.
They had a great selection, right up there with Browning/FN

I'm a little torn there too, but I'll no doubt shoot it anyway. I'm old enough that residual value doesn't mean a bunch anymore.
 
Very Nice!!! I would have gone ivory or ivory colored polymer grips...but I'm a sucker for the nickel/ivory grip look from cowboy movies.

I would shoot it too. My Heirloom Precision 1911 already has scratches on the hard chrome and dings in the wood grips from training with it.

Yes, the ivory on nickle look is really nice. I have a nickle 380acp Colt Mustang with ivory grips that is one of my favorite guns. But I loved the engraving on these grips, and it went so well with the gun engraving. Truthfully I tried a number of different grips on this before I found ones I was happy with.

I haven't shot this one yet, but I've owned probably 20 or so 1911's over the years. I find that if the barrel/bushing/lockup fitting is tight, they usually are incredibly accurate. And the fit on this gun is amazing, which I suppose should be expected out of the custom shop.

gloss blue limited edition' s
I still have a pair of two new 38 super Gold Cup Limited Editions
 
I am generally not a fan of engraved guns but yours makes me re-think that statement. It is really a beautiful piece. Congrats

Thanks Gilbert. I know what you mean about engraving. What appeals to one, can be quite gaudy to some others. Truly a personal thing. I find the high polish guns really beautiful by themselves. So wanted to leave some areas untouched, especially the curved areas that show off the high polish.

It's beautiful, plain and simple. I had no idea we had someone in Alberta doing that kind of work. Now you have me thinking....I've got a Series 70 MkIV Gold Cup that is mint....how great would that look? Or maybe do up my nickel Python....if you don't mind, could you PM me what something like that cost to get done? TC
 
I think that 1911's are the perfect platform, given the flat sides and being a classic. But have seen some spectacular engraved Pythons as well.
