Engraving/stock refinishing?

for finishing, i use 2 to 3 coats of minwax stain, and at least 4 coats of Poly, after sanding with 80 - 220 - then 600.

well if he was asking for a person to get it done then i completely misunderstood, and perhaps he should be more specific. What I got from it was him asking for products.

Bruce Bradshaw in Ontario does engraving you could contact him for a price. Refinishing a stock is not terribly difficult depending on if you mean just taking of the old finish , removing the worst dents and putting a new finish on. There are people here who do such work and perhaps will come forward to offer their services.

Alain Combes Gunsmith north of Montreal does stock refinishing (stripped varnish and did a hand-rubbed oil finish for me - beautiful work) and also case-hardening (haven't had this done so can't vouch for it personally). I'm not sure about engraving. Good luck.

Phew. gun stock finishing is not hard to find , engraving in canada is tough
Only name that comes to mind is here

If you are just refinishing the stock than go buy an engraving kit and slowly go over the original lines, it's not very hard.

If you don't have engraving or want it done then ya find someone. Call local gun shops.

It's only a wingmaster, is it worth putting $300-500 into the stocks? you could buy NOS out of numrich or brand new stocks from boyds for cheaper.

True. Last week, I had stepped into Precision Arms and spotted a 20ga SLE (bespoke gun) that I initially figured as something perhaps such as a Grulla/Arrieta that was up for sale. Then I noted the hang tag with the maker's (gunsmith's) name on the sxs and curiosity prompted me to to take a much closer look. Forgot to ask, if the engraving was outsourced or executed in the shop as well.

Fantastic workmanship, interestingly though that the build could be termed a clone of Basque design and he is British. :) I also inspected the beautiful .280 Rem custom build bolt gun. Stephen Milton is a very accomplished gunsmith.

Thanks for the input so far guys. I may attempt the stock refinishing myself, but I wanted to add a little engraving to the receiver, like maybe some border or scroll work, kinda like the Remington Custom Shop D Grade 870's

I have a model 12 that I would love to have some subtle engraving done to it as well. I can't figure out how to get it to someone in the US unless I take it there myself with a permit and wait for the work to be done. I wish I could just send it somewhere. A Canadian would be so much easier.
