enlarging flash hole

wondering if theres any reason why not to enlarge the flash holes in some brass. was cleaning some 270 brass and accidentally used a 3/32 drill bit, instead of a 5/64. can i just drill them all to 3/32, or is this one piece garbage?

The larger flash hole is not a good idea. It will generally increase pressures in a given load. I would dump that case,myself, and consider it a lesson learned. regards, Eagleye.

I'm with Eagleye on this one. I remember reading somewhere that it'll make your load burn to quickly and drive the max pressure up. I can only go on that though. I haven't tried it myself.

I had just read my manual last week and that one sticks out as being dangerous due to the possiblity of higher pressures. Toss it.

The only time you should do this is when experimenting with primer only propelled ammo, such as plastic bullet or wax bullets with straight wall cases, don't get these specially prepared cases mixed up with your reg. ammo cases, as someone else said, it would raise pressures and also aid in blow primers/blowback.

Pressure variation is inversely proportional to the size of the flash hole(s). One reason why Berdan cases work well. Small holes.
