Enough is enough?

Hey all. So I dont care that you grandfather has shot a 1000 moose in right behind the ear with a .22mag. I am wondering if a 22mag is enought to ethically harvest a coyote/wolf at say 100/200 yards. I relize this has probally been argued over multiple times but i a just asking and dont want jack ass answer. Is it enought? 50gr bullets i dont see why not

what are your observations?
what has worked for you??
have you tried it yourself?
don't knock others unless you know for a fact it is or isn't
personally I believe shot placement will do the job
but ethicly for a clean humane kill at those distances no I wouldn't do it again

If I shoot a coyote with a 22 mag and I never see him again, I accept that. After all, I do not eat them. The only thing is, if I want to keep the fur, then I would feel a bit sorry but not more than that. Talking about wanting the save the fur, one time, I shot a coyote at about 30 yards with my .270 win, 140 grain bullet from the front end and the coyote's fur was unuseable after that.

Attitudes like this and bragging about poor shot placement do nothing to promote the hunting / shooting sports. People acting in this manner is what get hunts shut down or banned outright.

I've used the 22LR on coyotes out to 80yds without issue, so I imagine the 22WMR would be good to 100yds a little more. Wolves are the size of small deer; I'd respect them with nothing less than a CF.

IMO a centerfire rifle is the only gun that should be used for a dedicated coyote or wolf rifle.

You rarely get perfect shooting scenarios on coyotes or wolves and marginal shots from a rimfire gun is going to be a slow and painful death for the animal (poor shots with centerfire will too, But less chance)

Saying that, I'd shoot any coyote and wolf under 75 yards with a .22mag if that's what I had in my hands. But my .22mag is a semi and I'd keep shooting til I seen it fall.
