The Ensio FireArms company of Finland announced the launch of the KAR-21 semi-automatic sporter rifle, available with 16" or 20" barrels and in 5.56x45mm and 7.62x51mm calibers, convertible from one to the other through by simply swapping a few parts

Looks really good...except the 3,000 EUR price ($4500 Cdn.) may a bit of an obstacle. Maybe North Sylva can import it in OR one of our sponsors may be able to get in a custom order directly with Ensio, like CSC did with the Famae custom order. Then again, who knows what the timeframes are since the Finnish orders arrive early next year. We may be well into next year if we can get any at all, and who knows what the political climate will be like by then...

It is definitely nice to see a different offering. I would be interested in seeing this hit Canadian shores.

Looks interesting but that charging handle is at the wrong spot if they are putting this to the joint Swedish/Finnish trial. Repeating the mistake of Bushmaster made with ACR 13 years ago.

What we really need is a high quality AR180. Using twin guide rods to keep the receiver compact with a tubular BGC, instead of giant hulk of steel block, in a compact receiver of AR dimension like the MCX.

My X95 and Kriss Vector have the charging handle in that front left area as well - I agree it is not ideal, but used to it by now.

So the MCX?

Neat. To me this looks like a Finnish take on the Colt 901, which attempts to do the same thing in offering a 5.56 and a 7.62 capability with one receiver.

The platform is designed to be big enough to be a 308, this mean it is oversized for 223. If we look at all the SCAR era creations, the conversion from 308 to 223 never took off, either in the military or civilian world. The only time calibre conversion makes sense is when training needs to be done with a lower power cartridge, that happens with some military precision rifles that need to use 308 when 338 is too much. This barrel changing or calibre changing business does not really make a lot of senses in practicality with this sort of rifle.

My thinking is that the price tag will not be justified for a 223 blaster, they will probably have a better market if their 308/6.5CM version can be a sub-MOA driver in a 16" format as a SAPR.

I like their non-reciprocating charging handle design - no small parts like ACR and some others. Pretty simple.

interesting they use an external cam track like the AK, instead of enclosed cam track in most recent designs as found in HK / FN / IWI

Will be interesting if it can handle the new 277 SIG fury.
