Entry .50 cal

At $1599, the Canada Ammo DA50 upper is a good choice - I have had both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 versions. Add an AR lower minus the buffer tube, spring and bolt catch and replace the hammer and spring with the supplied heavier one and you're in business.
 
Remember with a .50 it's the ammo cost that kills you. $4-8 / round or more unless you handload (I'm around $2.25/round with handloads) - need a larger than normal press and special dies...adds up fast.

Mine ate 2 scopes (cheap ones but with lifetime warranty) in my first season with it due to the relatively high recoil.
 
For me it's not the cost, my issue is that I have no where to shoot them. If there was a 1000 yard range close that allow gongs, an AI or Cadex would be in my safe:p

Well it's going to get more People into 50's so that's a good thing. So what? It has no ejector or extractor! Keeps the price down. And no messing with a AR lower to shoot as well. They are actually pretty well built and beefy where needed.

I'm sure it's perfectly safe... But that's about it, lol. No style points there. Just the bare minimum to get it done, which is fine if that's what you're going for.
 
The Serbu RN-50 is US$1199, in the USA.
Add import costs, duty, exchange rate, etc., and it will be more than the DA-50.

( Yes, the DA-50 still needs a AR lower and is Restricted )
 
And even then at 1000yd that's a comfortable range for 338LM that does not requires extra large press.

Dealers in Canada have\do stock it, so no need to import from the US. Cheapest I saw was Dlask for $1700.00 no buttstock or bipod though. Regular price with the stock and bipod is $1900.00 That's right around the cost of the DA upper alone if I'm no mistaken. I would prefer a single shot bolt action over a screw type breech cap but I don't think you can beat the price right now if you just gotta have a 50.

Ya true but double the cost of the RN50. Much faster rate of fire being bolt action, been around awhile so a proven firearm, but still out of reach for many price wise where the RN50 isn't. The $2000.00 price point is a ceiling for what many people would spend on a firearm.

I still say there is a market for the RN 50 at the under $2000.00 price point. It will get more into the 50 game that otherwise would not be. Looks like Dlask has got more RN50's in stock for $1700.00. No bipod, buttstock or scope. They take AR-15 Buttstocks (easy and cheap to get) and have rails for mounting the scope and bipod.

Except the Serbu is more like a novelty item instead of something people keep for a long time. It's a range blaster & a range conversation piece and not a competition nor a precision rifle.

I'd imagine people will take it out to the range half dozen times and pass it on to the next person.
